Are you viewing on mobile or desktop browser?

If you’re on mobile download the 1Blocker app, and for desktop use Chrome with AdBlock.

I haven’t seen an ad on HN in a couple years.

Price is right though. Since Jon and Rob are hardly ever around now as they have the paid site to cater to, they should put up a "Swim at Your Own Risk" sign up on the main page!

I wonder since Jon and Rob left this board, how long it’d take for a thread on how to remove ads to get deleted....

Lol, it’s free guys what do you expect? It may not be intentional also as there are programs out there on the web that are constantly looking to take advantage of other people’s websites to place their adds on.

If you don’t like it go to EsecPN and read all the Iowa articles they put up for free and enjoy Adam D!(kfaceHouse. I fully support Robs SC visits and single moms.

On various PC platforms, I have used several adblockers over the last decade. Two years ago I swtched to uBlock Origin for Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. It is very efficient at blocking adds, Youtube adds are stripped out seamlessly, and it noticeably speeds up browsing as opposed to browsing down, especially on under-powered computers. (It's also free.)

One issue is there was a disagreement between partners in the company and split in the company a few years back. The good version downloads through Github, the Microsoft or Google stores. (uBlock.org is the split off company, I can't say anything about that version)

There is also an Android version of uBlock Origin but I can not personally attest to how good it is. No iOS version yet.

I prefer uBlock Origin & Disconnect.me for Chrome.

On Android, I use Brave Browser. It has all the ad-blocking stuff built-in so you don't need extra plugins.

I know it's taking money out of HN.com's pocket, but until they reign in the obnoxiousness of the ads, I'll continue to do it. If the ads weren't as annoying, and I didn't have to worry about malicious ads, I would be more willing to let them come through. The "bad guys" realized a long time ago that it's much easier to hack an ad network to serve up malicious code to thousands of sites (and millions if not billions of users), than it is to try and hack every site. And there are too many ad networks in use on here to ensure they're all safe.
