US Open Golf - Can lefty win one?? Will there be an unknown type winner

What were the odds for Phil getting 2nd for the 6th time? Had to be some sportsbook out there with odds

Merion is one beautiful course built right into the lay of the land. Lots of blind shots to greens an plenty of creeks.

The rough looks very "rough" as some balls have just disappeared down into it.

Could Luke Donald finally win a major.

I am going to say that the course will dry out and be the winner. Winning score over par.

I am pulling for Jerry Kelly, an old US dude.

Nice call here.

Trust me I can comprehend how tough that course is by watching it the last 4 days.. I'm a 5 handicap and probably wouldn't break 100 on that course and under that setup.

I would give you at least 30 more strokes...it is ridiculous just how hard those US Open courses have been. I have golfed with some pretty good players and I don't think they would break 150 on a course like that...I am giving you the benefit that your 5 handicap is on a legit course.

Thanks although it is not going way out on a limb thinking over par wins the open.

I love golf, but one thing, I have not been a big fan of how they have been making the courses that tough, just me...it isn't really fun to watch for me. Any other thoughts?

I love how tough the US Open is. In the 70s and 80s into the 90s many players teed off with 1 irons all thru the tourney. I watched David Graham in 1981 hit almost all 1 irons on par 4s and 5s.

Like Hawkprdtdor40 says I think a really good amateur would shoot around 90-100 on that course as it was a little soft.

My strategy would be to play for bogey, hit a long iron or hybrid with control to just get in the friggin short grass, then play to a safe place on some longer holes but many par 4s you would have a mid iron to the green.

AND ALWAYS STAY BELOW THE HOLE. Even if your shot to the green is just short then you chip on at one over regulation and 2 putt for bogey.

Take number 18 for example, 530 par 4, hit a 4-5 iron off the tee 180-190 or what ever to the widest part of the fairway. Then hit another 5 iron 180 and have a 150 yard 7 iron to the green. pray you hit the green and two putt.

But man two putting would be a challenge. If you can average a bogey and a half you shoot around 100.

I luv the fast greens the normally hard greens that dont bite and spin back. The greens might not hold a lot of shots unless you can land them a club short.

Merion's green were almost all tilted back to front so if you are a decent putter and can stay under the hole you have a chance to two putt.
