Exactly... What other program would do that? Saban maybe (hard to picture that the guy has no loyalty he goes through assistants like crazy and him having a guy like that on his staff is impossible to fathom. That said prior to this so was Meyer) To rattle off all the crappy things and deleting texts and all then to say it's just a 3 game slap on the wrist worthy offense is nuts. What would OSU fans be saying if this was Harbaugh? At this point I find it tough to believe Meyer sticks around past this year but I've been wrong about everything else that pertains to this so he'll probably have 8 more years left.Ya that was the most logical scenario. I also assumed that to keep Meyer they would try to cover up the situation. I never predicted they would outright admit his culpability and then only slap him on the wrist.

Ha at this point it's as probable as anything else.Meyer will probably win the National Championship this year lol.
You really should listen to this one. Not what you think.

It takes a man to actually do what you did. With our society being so divisive I fully expected you to ignore his recommendation. Most people refuse to hear the other side - even on something as silly as a sports message board. Commendable, and I agree with a lot of what you said - my parents were amazing as wellWow, absolutely right on that. It was almost painful to hear the difficulty Steve Deace had trying to recount his experiences.
Frankly, I can't fathom it. I--literally--had the absolute best parents. Ever. It's probably why I am always astounded when I hear stories of abuse, especially when it ends in murder. In addition, I was blessed with the absolute best wife and stepdaughter. Did we ever have disagreements? Of course. Did the kid do stuff that left us perplexed? Duh. Would I do it over again? Absolutely. And most of all, I didn't earn or deserve any such blessings.
Saw a story this morning about a teen father who "kept throwing" his three-week old son because "he wouldn't stop crying". My heart is beyond broken when I read that kind of thing. The sad part is, I'm not even sure what questions to ask. "How?" and "Why?" seem almost stupid. And beyond those two, I'm not sure what in hell one could even ASK.
On the one hand, "Straight to the chair!" seems the standard answer. On the other, how can there be so many teen parents, what with all the birth-control-and-sex-education-in-schools that has been argued back and forth the past 30-plus years? And knowing that, are we really surprised that an 18-year old father reaches a breaking point with a 3-week old child that won't stop crying?
In the case of Urban Meyer, it still--no matter what any of us feel--ends just about where we thought it would: a slap on the wrist, a ludicrous statement, an apology about as heartfelt as one of tk's or ok4p's posts, etc.
It is what it is. But in the end...my sincerest "thank you" to you for directing me to that podcast. Raw as hell, and though I've never been as anti-Deace as a lot of people, I normally can't take him EXCEPT during actual football season. But now, I have a completely new appreciation and respect for the guy.

Well depending on if the NCAA has the time or initiative they may look into this recent deal too. So to say OSU slapping themselves on the wrist is the end of it may be premature. Tressels biggest crime was lying pretty much and covering up what he knew about the tattoo gate stuff when he had an email thread of evidence against him.. Needless to say Meyers 'crime' here is lying to the media (assuming he's told the truth since to his bosses) and what he did was enable his assistant to just be pretty much the worst human being one could be both off the job and on... I mean if the precedent has been set with firing Tressel like they did.... Come on...There is something about the guy, apparently. He managed to hang on at Florida and leave on HIS terms. Of course, he left the place in shambles.
To think Tressel lost his job is crazy, though to be accurate, Tressel DID put the program on NCAA probation.

There are no questions to ask. This is the plight of mankind. We create a world of light, tranquillity, and unspeakable beauty while just on the other side of the glass darkness, forlorning, and unconscionable evil.
I too am shaken when hearing or seeing the extent of human tragedy. I sometimes find solace in a novelty adage, "Diamonds are created under intense pressure". I choose to cling to hope for the people who directly experience the full weight of sorrow this life has to offer. I force myself to believe that some manage to come out better versions in spite of the obstacles. This helps my tiny brain make sense of such pain and suffering.

It almost makes me understand the NCAA stance with PSU.
Admittedly, while what happened there is disgusting, I personally had a problem with the NCAA--seemingly--changing the "death penalty" rules, but worse, some of the schools represented on the "lynch" committee have historically been the worst offenders in terms of NCAA probation stints. Then, when we see Miami/FL, UNC, et. al., somehow skate on various issues lately, it hacks me off. So I am sort of in conflict.
But...when one realizes that the schools' own fans--the ones who presumably carry the heaviest weight in terms of "support"--continue to support their teams, buy the jerseys, etc., it's kind of a given those types of schools won't suffer consequences. But...NCAA as "moral authority" is also a joke. If academic fraud isn't fraud when ALL students can do it (?!), when "investigations" can be derailed by "not having a set procedure", how can we give any credence to the NCAA as a moral arbiter?
But in this particular case, I have one memory that will (hopefully) last a lifetime: if 2017 is the last time Iowa played O$U with Urban Meyer as coach, the Hawks sure as hell made it count. Hell or high-water, I am going to either download or pirate that game so i can pop it on the screen whenever Meyer's name is "in the news".
I don't know what to say. Maybe @Fryowa has some thoughts?I personally know the son of the man in this article. Though I understand the "lynch" committee, the guy in this article pretty much took down Barry Switzer and also the Pony Express by himself though his area was basketball. He is/was the uncle of Coach Beilien and his mentor. Interesting reading anyway.

What's he think tweeting that accomplishes? What's he tweeting ANYTHING going to accomplish for that matter? Social media is insane. All of a sudden he's worried about his suffering kids... I'm sure when he was having an affair with one of the office gals for OSU in the White House and taking pics of it he was really worried about his kids... I mean dude even IF he never hurt his wife he's done plenty of other stuff that's 100% on him that's beyond terrible and embarrassing. There's no public sympathy coming his way no matter what he says. Getting off social media and just going away forever is about the best move he can make.. Financially take care of his kids but it'd probably be best if he's got nothing to do with raising them going forward. Literally just lay low and go away...Well, Zach Smith is now tweeting (one example listed below the link to the story).
