Uptick in Recruiting

Iowa has had a serious uptick in recruiting over the last 4 years (this ’19 class and the previous 3). Iowa has ranked in the high 30's/low 40’s each of the last 3 class and are on target for a similar finish again this year. We are winning recruiting battles against good teams, and stocking the team with good talent for the future.

Both our TE commits have offers from Michigan and MSU and one or the other have offers from ND, Penn St., Wisconsin, Ole Miss and several others.

Our QB commit has a Georgia offer

Our RB commit has offers from BC, Colorado, Indiana, K State, MSU, Nebraska and West Virginia

Our OL commits have offers from MSU, Louisville, Arizona, Purdue, Wisconsin

Our DL commits have offers from BC, Kentucky, Louisville, MSU, Minnesota, Missouri, and Pitt

Our LB commits have offers from BC, GT, ISU, MSU, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue

Our DB commits have offers from GT, Louisville, Maryland, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Pitt and West Virginia

This year is gonna be another smaller recruiting class, so the ranking might be a bit lower, but the quality of recruit is actually the highest over the last 4 years, with the average recruit rankings on 247 of .8669

It feels like we haven't landed a new recruit in forever and I was under the impression we still wanted 5 or 6 more guys in this class.

Right now we are waiting on Bell at WR to decide and Randolph/Fox at DE to decide. We are also waiting on Deng to decide at LB (I think they might view him as a DE, but not sure on that).

Pretty much the Iowa staff is content to evaluating film in Dec. for the rest of the kids they take in the '19 class.

I thought Bell committed to Indiana, but could be wrong.

Thanks. I'll have to see who I'm thinking of. Someone on our target list I thought just committed to IU.

David Ellis WR just committed to them, but I don't think Iowa was even recruiting him.

Indiana did end up getting a verbal from Larry Tracy, maybe that is who you are thinking of?

I probably misinterpreted something I saw on Twitter. No worries.

Absolutely Dean. The team rankings don’t necessarily show it but from those of us that folllw closely it is easy to see that the guys we are landing over the last three years are different caliber players than we have seen in the past.

The last two classes I’ve really liked. And it appears we should have a strong team for the next couple years.

I’m interested to see how this class finishes. Obviously it is headlined by Oline. It seems to me that Fox has cooled on us and Bell still seems like a long shot. As Rob mentioned there may be some new names that appear as well.

It feels to me like all else equal, we're favoring speed a bit more over other attributes or other intangibles. That's a necessity IMO and I'm happy to (finally) see it.

Look at our defense over the next couple years:

Dline:
AJE (Alabama offer)
Nixon (Alabama offer)
Waggoner (Ohio State offer)
(Also Golston, Linderbaum)

LB:
McDonald (Ole Miss offer)
Jacobs (MSU, GT, Nebby offers)

DBs:
Hankins (Michigan offer)
Johnson (LSU offer)
Brents (MSU offer)
Craddieth (Ole Miss, MSU, NC offers)

That’s not a bad group and that doesn’t include many others that are battling for playing time.

Yeah, great points and thanks to all who provided sources. I definitely remember looking at recruiting sites in the past and seeing how many times we beat out MAC schools for recruits.

The irony is that many of those recruits ended up being some of the most successful.

Is Chester Graves anywhere close to realistic?

I know he is a position of strength (DE), and he might fit better in a 3-4 scheme as OLB. But the connection we have going from Iowa Western and the momentum on the DL has me thinking about what would happen if we added him into the mix. We might see a D at a level never before seen at Iowa.

When Graves was a senior in HS, I was pushing him big-time as they type of player we should target. We almost never have that true quick-twitch edge player, and he fits the bill. The rumor when he was a senior, though, is that he's not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. If that's true, or there's any character issues, the Iowa staff may not aggressively pursue him.

Recruiting thoughts watching today’ game .............remind me again why we don’t have 4 & 5 star TE prospects lined up at the door. I trust Iowa knows how to pick them usually but still seems a bit unusual.

Well, David Bell can’t be too disappointed watching Iowa throw the ball today even though it might be TE heavy. We’ve definitely opened up our offense now that Stanley appears to be hitting stride.

Winning makes all our coaches better salesmen so let’s keep it going.

If David Bell is what his ranking says he is he'll catch a lot of balls at Iowa! Time to commit Mr. Bell!

I read on TOS that Graves has zero interest in Iowa according to his coach.

I would like to see us pull talent out of there on a yearly basis.
