man not a single top ranked wrestler, how far the program has fallen
 
Is there any chance that Grothus would get a wild card? Or do the wild cards even exist anymore?
 
Agreed. Grothus will get an at large bid. And rankings really don't matter; the #1 ranked Hwt went 0-2 last weekend and had to win a 9th place match to get automatic bid.

I've posted the rankings to keep the casual fan informed. This program is going to compete for a national championship in 9 days. They're just fine
 
Yes the rankings mean nothing and Iowa will be in the hunt in 2 weeks. Assuming Grothus gets a wild card if Iowa can get anything out of him the can win the national title. I don't think people realize how close Iowa was to winning last weekend, Penn St beat Iowa by 6.5, but they also had 4 extra pig tail matches scoring 6 extra points. If Iowa had the 4 extra pig tails they win the Big Ten title last weekend.

I'm more worried about how they're wrestling now, and they looked pretty good at the Big Ten's actually. They're being a lot more aggressive it seems, so hopefully they are peaking at the right time. We've got a shot and that's all that matters. Rankings shmankings...

Lost to PSU by 5.5 and they got a 4.5 point advantage in pigtails (which I'm sure you have no idea what that is). So we're basically one match from winning.

You've got your sports mistaken when you talk about "fallen", which is understandable since you've been following that BB team.

I also was at Big 10's and was impressed with team,we've closed the gap with Penn St.To bad the refs aren't as good as the wrestlers,very inconsistent on stalls and stalemates.I don't recall one point being awarded for a wrestler stalling.Good luck Hawks go get them.

Agreed - we're fine. By the way, when did they add a 9th-place match? It used to only go down to 7-8.

They only use when there are more than 8 automatic qualifiers at a given weight class. So the use the 9th/10th place match to determine who gets the 9th auto qual spot.
 
This team is ready for the challenge of Nationals. We do hav a few of the usual suspects that I wish would go 100% for the whole 7 min I.e. Evans, Telford, and sometimes DSJ. We are close. If we can make our own breaks, nail down bonus points like we did at the big 10's, and get a little help, I feel good about our chances at a team title! We have to get to our offense quick and often and push the pace, Iowa style!
