Update on pro combat uniforms

I noticed that at Scheel's in Coralville last week. They were selling the throwbacks and the supposed pro combat unis but both of them were made by some off brand manufacturer and not Nike. I'm not a jersey buyer but if I'm going to plop down the money for one the damn thing better be authentic.

I am confused. So, Iowa is wearing what have been called since creation "Nike Pro Combat" Unis, but they are not made by Nike? I find this rather hard to believe on several levels, not the least of which is Iowa's contract with Nike and Nike's desire to protect the image of their "Pro Combat" trademark/brand. Nike is not going to want some crap design thrown out there that everyone will believe is Nike and have it dillute the brand.

My personal opinion is way too much time and energey is spend discussing uniforms.

I just think the one's at Scheel's are knock offs. The real ones the players wear will be Nike.

I work at Scheels, and I noticed that display downstairs and asked a couple of my managers if those were the Nike Pro Combat uniforms. Neither of them recognized the term "Nike Pro Combat uniforms", but both said that those were special uniforms which we would be wearing for the Blackout against Purdue.

If these truly are the Pro Combats that I've been so excited for, I am incredibly disappointed. Awful job on these.

When did you ladies become so concerned with fashion?

"Ohhh what do suppose the purse will look like? I hope its not too matchy matchy."

^^ This is what you sound like.^^

Jersey: Likey

Pants: No Likey

Helmet: Hearing No Likey

Maybe the players got to pick the design? Maybe thats what they wanted. I personally dont think the combo is ugly or neat. And Im pretty sure you guys wouldve whined about it if it looked like Marylands or Nebraska's. In fact Im certain you wouldve. The grey pants arent that bad, in fact they arent bad at all. On a scale of -10 to +10, you could rate those pants a 0 at its lowest. They arent something to whine about. What a second I think there is a kid on your lawn, you better yell at them and come back and post.

Hawkeyenation posters - KF stinks cause he wont do procombat unis
Hawkeyenation posters - I heard we might do procomabt unis, hiphiphooray
Hawkeyenation posters - I hope they arent ugly like jNW's or ND's. I hope they dont over do it like Nebraska's. I hope they arent too flashy like Oregon's. I think procombats are dumb, I love our historic jerseys that have been changed like 14 times since Iowa's been playing football and I think our jerseys now are original and neat even though they are steeler knock off's
Hawkeyenation posters - Have you seen the new procombats? They are ugly. They have grey pants and I heard the helmet might be something different than I wanted
Hawkeyenation posters - KF stinks for doing these procombats. 4 million dollars a year and this is what we get?

The cyhawk trophy last year was something worth whining about, crying about grey pants is just ridiculous

I spoke with a Nike rep that told me that nobody will be carrying replica versions of the combat uniforms for purchase. Apparently Iowa had them made without using a Nike designer, and if you see what they look like, this rumor is obviously true. They are very plain and ugly. I for one am really disappointed. Either do it all the way or don't do it at all.
They're available at Scheel's in Coralville. $175.

Weren't both uniforms made by a local outfitter? somewhere in Cedar Rapids or something?

I think they are the ones who cooperated with the university, likely had to get approval for Nike as they must have the Nike swoosh on them on Saturdays, and then were produced locally.

No way Nike endorses these. They're crap. I think Scheels is just trying to make money by selling so called blackout jerseys.

No offense, but this doesn't make much sense. Scheels had the throwback jerseys well before it became common knowledge that those would be the throwbacks and they were selling them as the throwbacks. Why wouldn't they have this combination out if history has shown they do it for a reason?

What exactly were you expecting when coming into thread about the uniforms? That's like an ISU fan being surpised that an Iowa fan is bashing them in a thread titled "ISWho" or "Clowns be dumb"
