Update on pro combat uniforms

Weren't both uniforms made by a local outfitter? somewhere in Cedar Rapids or something?

I think they are the ones who cooperated with the university, likely had to get approval for Nike as they must have the Nike swoosh on them on Saturdays, and then were produced locally.

I believe they are made at Powers Mfg. in Cedar Falls, IA. Pretty much 5 min from UNI campus.

In the article posted Hyde said something about silver helmets. Could be interesting. It's weird that Iowa football would have multiple different unis in the same year. I'd be interested to see what the uniforms look like with the helmet, if there is a different one than normal. I like Iowa's normal uniforms but it would be cool to see something that looks modern and fun every once in a while.

I noticed that at Scheel's in Coralville last week. They were selling the throwbacks and the supposed pro combat unis but both of them were made by some off brand manufacturer and not Nike. I'm not a jersey buyer but if I'm going to plop down the money for one the damn thing better be authentic.

You should know that Powers makes the jersey's and adds the Nike swoosh. Because Nike is not making them for retail this is as close as you are going to get.

Powers in Waterloo actually produces the special game uniforms for Nike, to honor the Nike contract they add the swoosh. This is fact as I have been in the apparel business for almost 15 years and have dealt with Nike on this front. As I posted earlier Nike has moved on from what they called "Pro Combat" and have moved onto the Speed Designs (see Oregon this year). In order for Nike to be on board they need a longer time period to design and create unique game uniforms for Iowa than what Iowa has given them. The athletic department to my knowledge has been responsible for the Throwback and the Vetrans Game uniform this season.

I spoke with a Nike rep that told me that nobody will be carrying replica versions of the combat uniforms for purchase. Apparently Iowa had them made without using a Nike designer, and if you see what they look like, this rumor is obviously true. They are very plain and ugly. I for one am really disappointed. Either do it all the way or don't do it at all.

I guess I'll just go sit in the crick.

any chance Scheels starts selling Hawkeye gear on line? I like what they have in the store. Hawk Shop seems to gear toward the flashy/busy variety of apparel from UA for example.

I'd be fine if Iowa added a couple more change-up uni's every year. The kids are the recruits, not the alumni, and the recruits seem to like things like this.

This isn't a direct response to anybody, just seemed like the right place to post this. Have a good day.

powers also makes unis for oregon, air force, boise, etc because they can do things that most other shops cannot
