Nobody, I mean nobody wants to hear the CA word in their family, especially with a kid, no matter what type. But, thyroid CA can be beaten which is positive. The cure rate will be in the high percentages, which is good. The usual types are papillary or papillary of a follicular variant. Then there are others that are very very rare such as a medullary CA.
I can't emphasize what a unique case it is having an adolescent male being Dx'ed with a thyroid CA. It is actually kind of rare. Young adults (20-40), mostly female are often Dx'ed, but not many being adolescent. Also, Patrick is not overweight which can be contributed to thyroid CA many times.
