Unofficial NASCAR thread

Night race in Kansas was good. All Star next week is a fun one, but I am looking forward to Memorial Day weekend.

I guess I didn't realize there were still people watching nascar.

It's tapered off from its late 90's/early 00's heyday, but it's still insanely popular in terms of # of eyeballs on each race.

NASCAR holds no appeal for me personally, but as an F1 fan I do respect the series from afar. F1 is a bit of a joke right now - not enough of a driver's championship, IMHO. Mercedes is running away with it all to the point where it is comical. Really a 1 team competition for the championship, which sucks the fun/excitement right out of it. NASCAR does a better job of balancing the field (and the gap between the haves/have nots, which is also quite dramatic in F1).

NASCAR night race at Charlotte last weekend beat Heat-Pacers in ratings. Someone is watching.

I've never been to a race nor do I really watch it. However, The Wounded Warrior Foundation just hooked me up and is sending me to the race in Dover. I hope it is a good time.

Careful you don't get bit by the fan bug!!!! Thank you for your service to our country. I truly hope you have the best time of your life.

That surprises me, but I guess I haven't watched a race in at least 3-4 years.

I used to watch it all the time but just lost interest. I attribute a lot of it to fantasy sports. I actually did fantasy NASCAR before fantasy football. Once I got into fantasy football and quit fantasy nascar I never went back to watching it.

Anyone make it over to newton for the truck race? Curious if it's a good time over there. I've always been an open wheel/touring car guy myself but my son loves the Nascar action (mostly due to I think to 1 the pixar cars movie, 2 Nascar toys being readily available, and 3 Nascar frankly having the hands down best crashes in any racing series/format - and that includes touring, where the cars often get together in spectacular fashion, but rarely do you see massive chain reactions you get with 3500 lb cars doing 200 mph!)

Having watched a little lately, I can definitely see the appeal - very aggressive racing action and the events themselves come off with a real college fb-like spectator vibe...just not sure if the lack of traditional race craft would keep me engaged long term.

I went threw Newton on the way home from Kids Day. It is a really nice track. They wouldn't let me get my minivan on the track though. Really hoping to get over there next year for NWide race, or whatever it will be then. I think Cup should go here as well. What race ever sells out anymore. You see half emily grandstands all the time. Bring Cup to Newton!

I am a big NASCAR fan. But something is wrong. They are trying to cater to fans that don't care. It should stay a southern thing!
