UNI kicker arrested

The UNI kicker was arrested for public into. The Waterloo Courier had a small article about it on the second page. I watch KWWL channel 7 news, and there was no mention of it. I could have missed it, but not likely. When ever a Hawkeye player gets in trouble it is the main story on the news.

Public intox= very minor crime. Does not sound like there was any other charges to go along with it (disorderly conduct, interference with official acts, etc). And its the freaking kicker at UNI. If you dont know why this wasnt the lead story on the news then you are beyond help.

That is funny. Now I wouldn't expect the DSM or CR news to make much of it, but KWWL and the WC really push UNI, and rightfully so as it is in their coverage area 15 minutes away.

I get that Iowa is a much bigger program in the state and nationally obviously, but KWWL airs UNI sporting events and is always promoting the programs. The Courier uses UNI as it's main story over Iowa and ISU stories, (unless it's something really big like Iowa playing for B1G title vs UNI rolling over SIU or something).

No doubt UNI is the hometown team and gets the local coverage, and rightfully so. To the OP, it is an interesting observation.

And if it were the "freaking kicker at" Iowa, I believe they would have made a bigger deal about it.

If it was the kicker at Iowa that got a public intox ticket it would have been on the 3rd page of the sports section in the Gazette or Iowa City Press Citizen. No way is it front page news.

Big difference between a kicker getting a PI and the backup QB who is from Iowa City and is a legacy player getting a PI and punching out a bus window.

Debatable. Now if it was one of Iowa's marquee players -- JVB, Coker, McNutt -- or the coach's kid, then it definitely would have been bigger news.

He didn't even punch a window out. Someone get defy over there to teach them how its done.

Ha. Yes, this lack of understanding why a local station wouldn't lead with a story about a team they promote endlessly should define your inability to have hope. Pack it up, you're done.

So you think the LEAD STORY OF THE NEWS should be about the UNI kicker getting busted for a public intox. Im thinking there is more going on in CF/Waterloo that could probably be consdiered a bigger story.

I could see it being in the sports part of the broadcast but not the lead news story. And if Meyer was busted with the exact same offense, it would not lead off the entire news broadcast....anywhere.

I agree with you here for sure. It wouldn't make the lead story of the news, but could be mentioned as part of the sports, but not even the lead there, unless of course UNI had a rash of transgressions like Iowa went through once-upon-a-time.... ;)

No, I and many people could really not care less about it and it probably didn't need to be the lead story. That's fine, no argument. However, to say that someone is "beyond help" because they thought it could be was funny to me. That is all. Nothing more, nothing less. It would be like me saying you are beyond help because you misspelled considered. A mistake, yes. Beyond help? Seems a little drastic.

I am not saying it should be the lead story. The point I am trying to make is KWWL favors the Panthers. I watch KWWL enough to know that if it was Meyer it would be the lead story. It has been the lead story when Hawks got in trouble.

Lets put this into perspective. The freaking UI Drum Major was on the front page of the Press Citizen. The media does tend to salivate at the idea of any wrong doing by Iowa Student-Athletes.
