UNI Game - Is it NCAA elimination?

Iowa really needs this game to improve its non-conference resume. Without it and just a 9-9 conference record it probably excludes Iowa from the NCAA tournament. A conference record built on wins against the lower third of the conference isn't going to impress if the non-conference record is suspect. The UNI game is the key to NCAA tournament dreams unless Iowa can surprise with a top 6 finish in the conference.

UNI will probably get 20+ wins this year and be in the top 3 in a very tough MVC. This isn't a RPI killer like losing to Campbell. If Iowa is playing well at the end of the year and is in the top 7 in the B1G than I think we get in.

This is a game both teams need badly if they hope to have any shot at the NCAA tournament but it is not a make or break game for either team. Not at this point in the season.

No. 9-9 in this conference may very well get you in on that alone, especially if there are a couple of huge upsets along the way. It'd be awfully nice to win this one though.

No, we play in the B10, we'll have amble opportunities for quality wins. This is a stupid thread.
Agreed. Every game is important. The next one more important than the last. To say 1 particular non-con game is the key, is dumb.
Besides, we ain't makin' the dance no how.

Well if everybody didn't know it already, they know it now (I'm referring to the fact that you're a d*ck).

Totally agree with ssckelley here. Definitely not a make or break game, but it'd sure be nice to have and will only bolster our resume if we can get the W. Hopefully UNI can have a solid season and challenge for the MVC title regardless. I'm pumped for this game! Hopefully it's a lot different outcome than that debacle I witnessed first hand last season vs. Creighton.

latest braketology has ISU, WSU, WK, Gardner-Webb in the dance and depending on how VT does in the ACC and UNI in the MVC, that's 6 teams Iowa has played in their OOC, that made the dance.
going 4-2 against teams in the dance will only help

Good one brah.

Ok, I'll play along, an early Dec nuetral court game against a mid major team that may or may not be good will decide our season! This is ******* do or die bro!!

Gawd you're a ******. If you could read, then you'd realize that the OP didn't say this is a do or die game, he said that this is key to our NCAA hopes, and it very well could be.

A loss against UNI could very well hurt us at the end of the season. Let's say we finish 8-10 in the B10, which is good enough for 7th. That would make us 18-13 overall, assuming we lose to UNI and win the rest of our OOC games. Not such a great looking record, and probably a lock to keep us out of the tourney, going to the NIT instead. Let's say we win that game though, so we're 19-12 overall at the end of the season. That at least looks a little bit better (probably needing at least one win in the B10 tourney to get us over the hump), especially if UNI does well in the MVC. Do you understand how that could be KEY to our tourney hopes, brah? Probably not, since your ability to think outside of the box here is lacking.

I don't think this is a stupid thread. It is really to early to tell, but what else is there to talk about another football player leaving?

If you think about it I don't think 0-2 to MVC schools on neutral courts will look very good. These two losses could hurt more than one would think. It really would and does depend who the Hawks beat in the Big.

UNI has played a very difficult schedule so far. Since they have lost to most of the good teams they have played (although 2 were close) it's tough to tell how good they will be at the end of the year. I think a loss in this game will hurt us much more than a win will help. I agree with the OP that this is a very important game and that if we lose we are in trouble for the NCAA's. I feel we would need to go 10-8 in the B1G if we lose this game.

As long as we are invited to the B10 Touney, no game from now until then is an NCAA elimination game.

That said, if we are a bubble team that doesn't win the B10 Touney, I think this would be an influential win.

4 key out of conference games.... VT, WSU, ISU, & UNI. We are currently sitting at 1-2.

If we perfrom well enough in conference to put us on the bubble... we will have had some quality conference wins and probably a bad loss or two. I'm guessing the OOC will be the swing. We'll need to be at least 2-2 in our non conference against quality competition.

What's the title of the thread *******?

Well, since I have a brain I inferred that the OP meant that a loss vs. UNI could very well eliminate us from the tournament talk come March. Ya know, down the road. For anybody to deduce from the OP's original post that we're automatically eliminated if we lose on Saturday, would be moronic.

It may not be an elimination game, but it is a huge game, nonetheless.
Honestly, I do not see the Hawks making the tourny if they lose this game.
If they win, they still might not make the tourny, but losing this one really puts them behind the eight-ball.

Getting to 11-2 in the non-conference is critical just to allow them to get to 20+ wins for the season.
The Big Ten slate is pretty much set in stone....Hawks only have a few real opportunities to get road wins, like at PSU,Neb,NW and PU. Unless they run the table at home, which is unlikely, they need to win a couple of those road games, and then win all but one at home to get to 10-8. If they get to 21-9(10-8),they have a fighting chance to make the tourny, but still no lock. Lose to UNI,and their chances dip severely.

ISU was the biggest game of the year. Now, UNI is the biggest game of the year. After that it is IU. That is how tight this is going to be for Iowa to make a real bid for a tourny invite. NIT likely if they lose to UNI,which is what I expected anyway. If they are not good enough to beat UNI,just not worthy of an NCAA bid this year, not after the WSU and Va. Tech games.
