Underestimating TX to Big Ten

I think all of the talking heads are underestimating the possiblity that TX ends up in the Big 10 rather than the Pac 10.

* More money immediately available in the Big 10.
* More academic prestige in the Big 10.
* Central time zone is key to TV exposure
* Per the leaks of info, it's clear to me that the Big 10 and TX have been talking for some time. I think it's quite possible that the Pac 10 offer was a reactive measure to what they saw possibly happening between TX and the Big 10.

Money talks, and the Big 10 has the money, so don't discount the possibility that TX ends up where the money is.

No matter where Texas goes, money won't be an issue. They are a cash cow. Keeping a fair amount of control in a conference is what Texas wants. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if Big 12 stays together in some form after CU is gone and potentially NU/Mizzou.

1 i really don't see the big ten giving texas a better deal than the current member institutions in relation to tv revenue

2 i really don't see texas agreeing to any deal with the big ten that involves equal revenue sharing between the member institutions

texas will always do whats best for texas

I have a hard time believing Nebraska would want to be part of the same conference as Texas again, however I guess if all universities are seen as equals it might make the difference with that issue.
Also all this talk about texas tech and Okie state going to the Pac 10 has me questioning the Pac 10's academic standards. The pac 10 has some pretty impressive academic institutions with Stanford, Cal, USC, UCLA etc how do they feel about these extemely lower level academic schools tagging along with texas and texas a&m

FOX told the Pac 10 that they need to be in more time zones in order to start their own TV network and it appears they are determined to get there no matter who they have to take on.

I don't wany anything to do w/ TX coming to the B10, mostly b/c of what I'm starting to perceive as their superiority complex. I understand they're really good at many sports and a good school, but the business of them putting an ultimatum on NE and MO doesn't sit well w/ me. Metaphorically speaking, basically TX has been the only adult at the kids' table the past 5 years, and if they come to the B10 I think that attitude would need to change very, very quickly. And if the B10 acquiesces to TX, it'll be really disappointing.

If the B10 makes financial exceptions for TX, I will really be ticked. But I still want TX in the B10. I am expecting them to help raise the bar, so to speak.

I would rather have Texas join the Pac-10. I want the Big 10 to remain a northern/midwest conference. I don't want them to an all over conference. At least with Nebraska joining all of the states of the conferences are still landlocked. I would much rather have Notre Dame join and have Texas get screwed by getting left out. Since they have so much money and pull I doubt that will happen but who knows.

i think a texas and a&m move to the big ten immediately puts more pressure on ND to join up. this whole expansion push now could really eat apart the big east- especially if rumors of Oklahoma to the SEC start shooting out.

I think the B10 is in a better position than the Big 12 in that if Texas were to leave the B10, the conference could manage without them. That is, Texas won't be able to hold the conference hostage the way it did the Big 12

Joining the Big 10 is 10 mil automatic for Texas. Not to mention the network, contracts with ABC and ESPN and the HUGE amount of research money in the Big 10. (Don't underestimate that)

Texas is ranked in the top 20 in the world for public institutions, has a 400 mil a year in research, and is one of the largest schools in the south.

All of these things are EXACTLY what Delany wants. Why the hell would they take less money by going to the PAC-10??????

If there is a 16 team format that pretty much just solidifies a move towards a playoff. Other sports 16 teams make sense and honestly I only see it becoming a problem with scheduling for football. Look, the Big East has a bunch of teams in basketball and does pretty well for itself.

I'll add to my earlier post that you can't discount the difficulty the Big Ten network had in getting started up. A Pac 16 network isn't a guaranteed success.

Remember how many people on these boards were Pi**ed off about the new network in the early days.

TX want's more TV exposure and the Big 10 network can give it to them right away. PLUS when you add Texas distribution of the network it means BIG, BIG $ to Texas and the rest of the Big Ten. Yes Texas is already rich, but they didn't get that way by being stupid.

Rich people don't suddenly decide they want to stop getting richer. The Big 10 can make TX much richer than they already are.

Pride... TX likes to call the shots...

Things are changing now however... with CU and OSU going on their own to the PAC-10 and Nebby to the Big10... TX might swallow some pride and agree to become an equal partner in the Big10 vs... who knows what.
