Underestimating TX to Big Ten

agree with wdmhawk on the control issue-

1 i really don't see the big ten giving texas a better deal than the current member institutions in relation to tv revenue

2 i really don't see texas agreeing to any deal with the big ten that involves equal revenue sharing between the member institutions

texas will always do whats best for texas

They'd have the same issue with the Pac-10. There is zero chance UW, Oregon or USC - to name just 3 - would agree to a special deal for Texas. The days of TX dominating a conference are over, and they understand this, while their current conference disintegrates around them. They have to go somewhere.

However, they also understand they'll make at least $10 million MORE yearly by joining the Big Ten. The math has been detailed here and on other sites several times. You're right the B10 won't give them a special deal - they don't need to.

The only question is whether the Pac-10, advised by CAA and backed by Fox, can match Big Ten's money. Based on current deals they're far behind, but we don't know what kind of packages are being dangled for an expanded Pac-10.

I'm pretty sure on the simplest level... that the Pac 10 has unequal revenue sharing between the teams in the league- just like the big 12 did. That would play right into Texas' hands if so. If that's the case- it doesn't matter about the OVERALL package, just the amount of times Texas would play on TV compared to the rest of the teams in the conference.

Plano, you're right about that, found details here: Huskies | Washington AD Scott Woodward pushes for Pac-10 schools to share all revenue | Seattle Times Newspaper Thanks for the correction.

Its from last year but I believe the same formula is in place. Still, the Pac-10 benefits to TX would need to outweigh the B10 benefits to TX, and my point remains that UW/Oregon/USC etc. aren't motivated to give TX special benefits.

Would hope not Billso- but that will lead to their own similar big 12 demise if they choose to do so. let's hope if the horns really are coming to the big ten, we don't make any of the same mistakes.

The thought of Gordon Gee's The Ohio State University conceding anything does not compute.

That's what I love about the B10's financial and academic position. We're dealing from strength. Texas would be a great addition, but not an essential one.

Texas can come play with us, but when it's all said and done, I would bet they go West or East and call their own shots rather than deal with the likes of any of the institutions of the Big Ten We are not the South. There are TV sets elsewhere that would fit better. Keep them out!
