Um, KF is actually correct about not returning punts. It's not worth it.

Of course, in reality returning a punt and stopping a fake are not mutually exclusive conditions.

But if KF wants to coach in a binary world, by god, choose the one where we get possession of the ball.

anything beyond a simplistic choice of 2 outcomes is beyond KFz's comprehension.

We actually stopped a fake punt against Purdue. It doesn't count as a fake because he ended up punting it, but it was meant to be a fake. We blocked the punt by the way. Then McCall fumbled.

I'm guessing those numbers don't include fair catches or non fielded punts. If that's the case, how much do the averages drop. I say try to block it every time. Well...maybe not, penalties would hurt.

cecilb=FBletterman;1187245]OP, all your argument proves is that it's not worth it for an Kirk Ferentz led team. Since that is the hand we are currently dealt I whole heartily agree. Of those last 6 successful punt fakes and 2 on side kicks we win at least 5 of those games if they never occurred.

The best solution however is to find a coaching staff who can probably teach special teams. What has transpired is completely unacceptable if not down right embarrassing for a coaching staff at this level of play. I don't even think there is a high school team in America that has let this happen to them? Six straight successful punt fakes has that even happened in football history at any level?? Seriously!

Fbmgrletterman. You are stating the obvious. My question, did you acquire such sage wisdom on all things football when you were filling water cups, shagging balls, folding clothes, or loading the truck?[/QUOTE]

Nope, lol, didn't do water that was the trainers; I did work with the Iowa special teams for 5 seasons every single play, every single practice when we could do both field punts and defend fakes successfully.
