UI’s recruiting class is ranked 40th nationally by Scout.com

Top rated BB recruits come from everywhere. If you get a few of them, you get a highly rated class. Most highly rated FB players are not around here, and even if you pick up a few of them, you need a lot more to get a highly ranked class.

It's totally different.

True in the sense that you only need about 2 really good players to turn a basketball program around. Having said that I don't believe Lick EVER put a top 10 recruiting class together. I'm not sure Tom Davis did after Raveling's recruits graduated.

The worst part of this is that we are going to lose recruits due to this **** poor effort by the coaches this year. ONce you start losing recruits it's time to put up the White flag.

this years class was 30th until Kenney decommited and he was a 4*, one key player can drop a class rankingin a hurry.
when you look at the last 3 classes recruiting has improved.
2010 22 commits 4 4* 13 3* and 5 2* pl;ayers of the 4*players Dery and Coker are gone and CJF and Donnal are/were starting til Donnal got hurt 1 is a true JR and 1 is a RSSO.
2011 25 commits that class had 5 4*'s 15 3*'s and 5 2*'s, Coe never made it because of grades. the others Blythe, Walsh, Hamilton, and Cooper are either starting or in the 2 deeps. 3 are RSFR and 1 is a true SO.
2012 24 commits with 5 4*'s 14 3*'s and 5 2*'s. the 5 4*s all are RS'ing. other than Derby, Coe and Coker none have left.
the change in 2*'s went from avg'ing 12-14 per year dropped to just 5 per year and the 4*'s went from 1-2 to 4-5 per year. this is where patience on the youngsters has to be kept in check.
these come from Rivals.
even this years class is not that bad, on ESPN Weisinski is a 4*, Young on 247 is a 4* and Hll is a 4* on Scout and Rivaand ESPN lists him as a 3* with a grade of 79 just below a 80 4*. ESPN also has a total of 5 players graded at a 79 3*s. this is where recruiting needed to be to maintain a higher winning level. this is where player retention is huge and the Rhabdo did not help

if you are referring to Kenney decommiting he left because of his dad. Lathum a Wisconsin recruit from Indiana because of Kenney's dad and there is speculation a 4* DL recruit from Indiana may decommit from Clemson, I see a pattern here 3 kids from Indiana staying home to play for the home school
in 2007 and 2008 we kept Claybourne and Ballard even though Iowa had back to bad seasons of 6-7 and 6-6 2006 and 2007, kids don't get spooked by bad seasons for at least 2 recruiting classes later, the 2009 class was a direct reflection of this, the 2009 OB WAS A RESULT OF THE RECRUITING CLASSES OF 2005-2007. proving good classes result in good things bad recruiting results in the last 2 years, as for Scouts ranking Ihave very little faith in their rankings as with Walsh a top 150 player on Rivals and ESPN and a Army AA and was just a 3* on Scout..
the 2011 class was rated 30th by Rivals ESPN only shows the top 25, but what I like about ESPN they give a analysis on each player and show their m,ethod of their rankings each player

Ha, ranked 40th for now until we start losing all of our best recruits because they realize they don't want to play for a coach that is content and calls an incredibly boring game that doesn't allow us to compete. You can go to Northwestern, Iowa State, etc. and actually win games, or you can come to Iowa and play on a team that will be lucky to win 5 games. Tough choice.

Not sure how to respond to that......

......and in today's news both Nebraska and Wisconsin picked up notable verbals that Iowa had offered as well. Four star RB (courted by many major programs) to Wisconsin and a noted Juco DE (previous Purdue verbal) recruited by Rick K. to the Huskers.......just two of our more important positions we're still looking to fill.

By the way, our recruiting class ranking has been dropping in the last several months primarily due to the fact that we had more early verbals than many and most of the recruiting sites give weight to the number of players that have verballed. Not sure I understand the rational behind the size of a class indicating quality or talent but that's the way they do it in part. Now that others have brought more players aboard and we have slowed we are now dropping. We are moving to our normal 30-40 position.

who is this 4* rb you speak of there is only one 4* listed Elder out of Tennessee and he is uncomitted..as to the DE no JUCO had a offer other than JUCO 4* WR Corey Smith out of Mississippi..
somebody is just trying to stir the pot with false info.
as to a RB who's not a 4* is 5.7 grade 3* Edwards from Michigan who Iowa has recruited the hardest and the longest and lists Iowa in his top 3 and is rated the 10th best all purpose back by rivals. oh by the way he is still uncommited

It was so much better on this board when you were banned.

This isn't a surprise. I've never felt the need to put a lot of stock in recruiting class rankings.

Seriously?? Well if it isn't a surprised then your content with the ebb and flows of this program. :) I will strongly disagree and we need more highly ranked classes. I disagree with these comments..I disagree with these comments..Just go take a look at the programs that are consistently ranked in the Top 25 and you comeback and tell me with a straight face that recruiting class ranks don't matter..

Let's take a look at the 4 and 5 star recruits that have committed to Iowa since 2005. Tell you what, you give me a top 25 class year in and year out you would breed competition at impact position and depth. Sure not everyone that is highly ranked lives up to expectations but don't tell me that they don't provide impact. Look at I would take many of these players in a heartbeat..We need better classes and that is a FACT...

Show me the correlation between top 25 recruiting classes and top 25 BCS rankings 4 years later and then I might get excited about where our recruiting classes are ranked. I've never seen data (i.e. facts) showing there is a correlation.

Football Team Recruiting Rankings(Scout.com):

Iowa
2002 - 40
2003 - 30
2004 - 41
2005 - 8
2006 - 40
2007 - 37
2008 - 44
2009 - 75
2010 - 45
2011 - 25
2012 - 47
2013 - 41*

(*) pending

14 years and only one class in the top 25, even after successful years on the field. You can't blame all of those on cornfields and Iowa winters; just look what Bielama has done at Wisconsin, or Dantonio has done. At some point, you have to look at the coaches and their ability to recruit. I know these rankings don't mean a lot, but if you look at the number of 4 and 5 stars who eventually make the pros to 2 and 3 stars, there's no comparison. Just think what a Kirk Cousins could have done for us the past four years, who we were in the final running for, or Kyle Orton, who is from Iowa.

One sub-500 season and the drama queens throw a temper-tantrum. This season is ugly, but are you really comparing Iowa over the past 5, 10, 20 or 30 years to Northwestern or Iowa State? That's a bit over dramatic to say the least.

40th ranked classes are the type good enough to get us to 7-5 each year anyway.
