UI’s recruiting class is ranked 40th nationally by Scout.com

One sub-500 season and the drama queens throw a temper-tantrum. This season is ugly, but are you really comparing Iowa over the past 5, 10, 20 or 30 years to Northwestern or Iowa State? That's a bit over dramatic to say the least.

This is a poster to watch in the future.

I do my homework Clemment committed to PITT, then he decommitted , he has never shownmuch if any interest in Iowa. Gregory never heard of him as nobody listed him on their personal list of recruits and until Kenny decommited he was not being recruited.
with Kenney and the possibility of Boetger becoming a DE with his size Iowa did not need him.
quit reaching for something that is not there.
Iowa's top target at RB has always been Edwards out of Michigan and Rivals lists him as a 5.7 3* just below 5.8 4*, plus he has Iowa in his top 3 and he likes the Idea of how GD plans to use him in the slot as well as RB you are the one that needs to do their homework
as for this Gregory he is a 5.5 3* and a UR O * on ESPN, I will cocede that ESPN does not rank JUCO'S
and why would Iowa need a JUCO DE
Spears is a RSFR 2 deeps
McMinn is a RSFR was listed with Spears at the same spot in the 2 deeps
Vencus is A RS this as as true FR
Ott a true FR just had his RS pulled 2 deeps
Tsopinidas is a RSFR
Ekakitie is a RS this year as a true FR

Show me the correlation between top 25 recruiting classes and top 25 BCS rankings 4 years later and then I might get excited about where our recruiting classes are ranked. I've never seen data (i.e. facts) showing there is a correlation.

I would guess overall the successful teams are getting those Top 25 classes more often than not. Sure you do have classes that turn out to be hidden gems. Also you can't just look at one class from 4 years ago and say show me the correlation, that don't work because one class doesn't make a team, you also could have players that might be redshirts.

Seriously?? Well if it isn't a surprised then your content with the ebb and flows of this program. :) I will strongly disagree and we need more highly ranked classes. I disagree with these comments..I disagree with these comments..Just go take a look at the programs that are consistently ranked in the Top 25 and you comeback and tell me with a straight face that recruiting class ranks don't matter..

Let's take a look at the 4 and 5 star recruits that have committed to Iowa since 2005. Tell you what, you give me a top 25 class year in and year out you would breed competition at impact position and depth. Sure not everyone that is highly ranked lives up to expectations but don't tell me that they don't provide impact. Look at I would take many of these players in a heartbeat..We need better classes and that is a FACT...

"The biggest thing that jumps out ot me, from a guy looking in from the outside, is that it appears to to have been a dropoff in talent".

......Gerry DiNardo, former coach and current Big 10 Network analyst commenting on this year's Iowa squad.

The vultures are already circling the program as this year progresses.....looking for those with the talent and those that might be waivering. Delano Hill next......maybe. As I look at those that Iowa is still in the running for or are considering extending an offer to it is primarily a battle between us and MAC level competitors for the most part. Iowa ranks fourth from the bottom in the BIG in extended offers to ESPN's Elite 300 prospects this year.....joining IN, MN, and NW. We offered even fewer the year before in this same listing. I see one Hawk verbal thus far this year from outside the Midwest.

We may not hit for a high average with top tier talent but we need to get to the plate a bit more and think a bit bigger vs. focus on the Midwest and battling for those that remain after OSU, MI, ND, and others have their pickings.

"We're just Iowa" is not a ringing endorsement for thinking big.

One can understand why the staff may either be "gun-shy" or "pragmatic". Such as:

--The 2005 Class
-Sure, it was ranked 8th. Christensen never panned out. Stross was injured at times. Dace was walking wounded, Doering never got it going. Moeaki? Walking wounded. Bain? Left the program.

--Perennial Runner-Up Status
-In addition to several Heisman runners-up in our history, we also seem to be that team that, when it's down to two schools, ours is the hat that doesn't get picked up. Lately, some of the best moves we have made have been the offers we either pulled or cooled on (Seantrel Henderson being a prime example). But too often--and not just during KF Era--we have lost top in-state recruits to Michigan, Nebrasaka or elsewhere (Adrian Arrington, Roger Craig, et. al.). It gets discouraging to have a kid from Cedar Rapids or the QC say he chose "X" because of, basically, "the spotlight".

--De-Commits
-How many guys have "committed" only to switch late i the game? At one point we had Jason Ford and Suppo Sanni and possibly Russell Ellington in the pipeline. Two years ago it was Melvin Gordon. Another year it was Brian Smith. Along came Zook and ND, and we were toast. And it wasn't in August or September, it was October, November, December, etc. At that point, you have already told other recruits that you are going in a certain direction.

Given the above, it's pretty difficult to spend an inordinate of time on a few top-shelf recruits. Iowa may be known as an OL or DL "pipeline", but what top-rated WR or RB will choose Iowa over Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska or (historically) Penn State? And that's just within B1G. Once ND, USC or SEC schools come calling?
