UCLA knocks off Penn State 42-37

Love it. Watched the whole game. PSU was outplayed. UCLA got a solid lead then tried to lose the game. Fun watch.

Watching OSU vs MN. 21-3 at half. Ohio St. belongs in the NFL. Good grief!

What ever nut job put a few bucks down on UCLA to win that is one lucky SOB. Unreal. Franklin is a total tool. But he's not going anywhere unless they come up with 56 milly to pay him off. So I think they're stuck with him for awhile

Didn’t know Franklin’s buyout was that high. Yeah, the days of paying Jimbo Fisher 70 mil just to go away are long over.

@USC
PSU
Oregon

Which one do you think Iowa gets? They will get at least one of the three and it doesn’t matter if Brown or Gronowski is the quarterback. I think one of the final KF specials will be them beating Oregon in Kinnick.;)

UCLA's offense looked amazing. What's crazy is that UCLA had also fired its defensive coordinator shortly after Foster, then fired its offensive coordinator on Tuesday. So 33 year old tight ends coach Jerry Neuheisel had two days to come up with a game plan and implement it. That shit is crazy.

Funny thing was they took the money line off the books the day before the game because it was so lopsided. Didn’t want someone dropping $100k on Penn State.

Yeah I'm sure that PSU fan base is a total dumpster fire. Well the 56 large is estimated based on what's known about his deal. In 2021 he signed a 10 yr deal for 85 milly with the initial buyout being 64. So based on where they are in the deal now the 56 number is a guess but it's probably not far off.

I wish the USC game was at home cause I think we'd beat them here out there I'm not sure about. We suck when we go out west at all.

If PSU keeps spiraling we outta be embarrassed to lose to them.

That game reminded me of so many rose bowl games. Obviously that UCLA team was not the same team we saw the first four weeks. We all lknow UCLA has talent..it just was not put to use.

PSU probably had no film to evaluate tendancies at all. Plus the travel. Plus the coaching and probably most of all PSU just wasn't a legit top 10 team.

A lot crazier things have happened.

Mind you I'm not saying Franklin should get fired, that'd be pretty stupid, but crazier things have happened. Penn State has eff you money.

Agreed. With the TV and donor money available to blue bloods these days, any contract can be bought out.

I think there is enough of a track record that tells you Franklin is an elite recruiter, very good coach, but is not going to lead you to a title. He generally has the program in the Top 10 or so territory, and they are almost always nationally relevant.

So, setting aside the buy-out, if you are an average PSU fan, you have to see that there is a lot more room to get worse than there is to get better if you fire Franklin and try to find that coach "to take you to the next level." Some of these blue blood programs are that reckless and hungry for a title. MANY OSU fans wanted Day fired last year after he lost to Michigan. Some still do!!!

In a 4 tier system, Iowa is probably comfortably in the second tier and will stay there under KF. I can see the argument that its worth the risk to try to get to the top tier, knowing you are risking the program instead being the next Nebraska. PSU is already in the Top Tier, and probably will be as long as Franklin is there. Is the desperation for a Nattie so great you would risk that success and turn into an Arkansas?

So much this. Although, I have to admit, I am old enough to have been around when there was no official "Nattie". Yes, there were years when more than one team claimed the title. And yes, lots of articles were written. And probably some discussion on sports shows (note: "shows"...because there was no exclusive sports radio other than ESPN which was mostly games and Sports Center). And the upshot of it? Nothing really.

Because not long after the college seasons ended, we'd have the Super Bowl to talk about. And then spring would bring the start of MLB, which people were interested in again because it was full of jacked up homer hitters. And chicks (and dudes) dig the long ball. And then we'd go on summer vacation. And before you knew it.....

The college season was kicking off again. And while some teams could boast a returning star QB, we all wondered how all the losses on their defensive side would be filled. The previous year mattered, but only to a degree. And the drama of a new season would begin unfolding. New stars were born. Old stars continued to shine, or faded.

I'll say it again. College football didn't become huge because of a national title. It became huge DESPITE not having a national title. I'm postulating some theories on specifically WHY it's bigger, but I'll save that for another day. I will say again, the importance being placed on the national title...along with 'delivering quality playoff matchups' is not good longterm for college football.
