Yea the loss really doesn't hurt too much as far as wins go. It could very well hurt as far as team confidence down the road. If we rebound from this loss quickly, we should be fine. If we win our next 2 games we are golden.

everyone expected a 1-2 start of the season, possibly 0-3 at this point. The schedule is much harder in teh beginning....It is far too early to say the team is on the bubble. The key of the season is the final half of the big ten schedule. A road win at OSU takes away an expected loss going into the year. Beat the middle of the pack teams and split with the top teams and you are in and not even on the bubble. All Iowa needs to do is win another game on the road against a top 25 team and they are a lock for the tourney. No other team even has 2 top 25 road wins yet.
Ulis would help in so many ways. He might even be good enough to get rid of the funk the other guards are in. Watching him do his thing could easily take enough pressure off the other guys to make them relax. Also imagine him driving the lane and putting it up for Gabe and Whitey to finish.

Iowa will not always be a bubble team but this team will be one at best. it is time we face the fact that the current and recent Iowa hoops teams are mediocre. Beat little sisters of the poor and lose to decent teams.
People like to hammer on Lickliter but some of his teams would have thumped this bunch. Cyrus Tate would look like LeBron James against this outfit.

Good thread. This shows that you can analyze an Iowa sports program without misspelling the head coach's name, without calling him a "dick," and without bashing individual players to the point that some posters should be banned immediately.
I do not in any way think this team lacks the talent to get a decent seed in the NCAA. Talent wise, they are capable of playing with the best of the BT. This team is inconsistent, no doubt about it. But, as bad as they have looked at times, there has been a lot of outstanding basketball played by this team. First half against Texas, OSU game, end of Nebbie game, first half against MSU, just to give some examples. Izzo was not just being nice when he talked about how dominant Iowa was against his Spartans in the first half. He could have said nothing at all.
We have serious problems in the guard court. The poor shooting is absolutely inexplicable. These guys are quite capable of shooting well, but have simply under performed. I think our guards play pretty good defense, pass reasonably well, don't turn the ball over and generally play a pretty good floor game. But, we can't win consistently if they can't shoot well. There is nothing wrong with the front court: Look at the output of our two-heading center position and it would rank near the top; White and Uthoff have different, but complimentary skill sets...who else in the BT can you name that has a better front court? Our depth is still in a developmental stage, but has some promise.
This team is a mystery wrapped in an enigma, and it will be both fascinating and probably frustrating to watch them the rest of the year. I will be there in NN row 25!

Iowa will end up with 19-21 wins and end up a 6-10 seed and that isn't bubble, not with this schedule. Do I see Iowa getting past the first week in the Tourny, No.. As things stand right now, IMO Iowa is no better than a 1 and done team..

The guard play is a little baffling. We are almost performing worse. Although I think most of it is other teams focus on defense. Pressure the guards in the half-court, and Iowa folds.

7-9 seeds are the bubble area since about 35 spots are taken by automatics.
i was hoping for a win against MSU because:
1. it would break the trend vs. MSU
2. iowa only plays them once
3. it would 3-0 in conference
4. both of those would help iowa get mental toughness
5. for the next tough stretch of games
instead, one step forward, one step backward. constantly in the same place.

Agreed 100 percent. Iowa will win 10 in the conference, go 1-1 in the BTT, and get a #7 seed. IMHO.

I wouldn't mind trading OSU and MSU just from a mental standpoint for the players. That may have just pushed them over the hump for toughing out close games consistently.
Instead, one step forward with holding at OSU, one step backward with the folding at home vs. MSU.
