Two Thoughts at Halftime

1. Iowa is absolutely getting "homered" big time...phantom fouls, inconsistent calls, and Tech spends half the night on the free throw line...Iowa drives to the basket and can't seem to get to the line?

2. Anybody who does not enjoy watching this Iowa team has a darn short memory. We may not win any more games than we did a year ago, due to the schedule, but were are a very nice ball club...and, we will get better. I am having a ball yelling at the screen tonight! In Iowa City Sat. night with my season ticket, then on to Des Moines to watch us pound on UNI.

Go Hawks!

VT 13-15 from the FTL
IA 5-7 from the FTL
Ia finally got to the line for the 1-1 with under 30 sec. left in the half
way to many over the back rebounds by VT being allowed

i haven't been able to watch as much as i'd like tonight, but i agree with both parts.

then again, that's the part of home court advantage in college sports in general. the home team gets the calls usually.

I have to agree with spliff on this one. We're not exactly a good defensive team. Not being able to score isn't a good answer for that.
Fran should have redshirted Gatens two years ago. :)

The refs are bad, but come on, we can't play defense, rebound or score consistently, this Iowa team also lacks athleticism and all this adds up to a recipe for disaster. This team will be lucky to get to 12 wins this year, do t kid yourselves, the officiating only has do with whether we lose by 12 or 20

heard that last year too...

Haha. No kidding. Was hearing a lot of "0-18" talk after Creighton/Campbell/Clemson last year. And anybody who can't see that this team has more potential than last year's isn't paying close enough attention. Not saying we'll reach it. Hell, we may even finish below .500, but they're showing flashes right now. We had a 14-0 run when we needed it tonight (couldn't say that at any time last year), but just couldn't keep it rolling.

Piece by piece, this team will improve.

and yeah por reffing can have a very big impact on a game, knowing Fran sits a player no matter how much time is left in the half til Halftime can and does hurt a team,
what Idon't understand is why there were no over the back calls on VT the whole game. Imean a 6'9 guy climbing the back of 7'1 Woody for the REBOUND AND NO CALL?

Same old, same old. The Trolls are out in force. Iowa is a team on the rise and will show its weaknesses at times...big surprise! But, now the coach doesn't know what he is doing, Gesell is no good, Woodbury is a bust, and on and on. We won't win a game in the Big Ten, we can't play defense, we can't shoot the ball. You are really getting boring. Time to get out the Ignore Button on a few more idiots on this board.

Gesell is the key to this team and he has played like a frosh the last two games. This team will go as far as MG develops this season. He could be getting good by the end of the season.

To Johnstown Hawkeye: You are among the top of the idiots. Your claim that this team is not athletic shows your ignorance. If you want to say they have a long way to go on defense, if you want to say their shooting is inconsistent at this point in the season, then you would have some good point to share. Try again.

Do you know there is no such rule that says over the back is a foul? Check a rule book you won't find it. Announcers use the term to help people that don't understand the game as well.

Blaming refs is sad...you have to adjust to what they are calling and expect to get hosed when you aren't at home. He would get a foul if he used his body right. He doesn't put his butt into the guy to box him out he stands straight up because he was 7 foot in hs and never needed to learn how to play physical rebounding basketball...we need to see if reggie evans can come give a clinic on it...or maybe our bigs should just watch any game he plays in.
