Two Thoughts at Halftime

Haha. No kidding. Was hearing a lot of "0-18" talk after Creighton/Campbell/Clemson last year. And anybody who can't see that this team has more potential than last year's isn't paying close enough attention. Not saying we'll reach it. Hell, we may even finish below .500, but they're showing flashes right now. We had a 14-0 run when we needed it tonight (couldn't say that at any time last year), but just couldn't keep it rolling.

Piece by piece, this team will improve.

who knows, this might be a small step back of a year. lose your best player and have three freshmen playing significant minutes. might pick up a few more losses in the OOC schedule. yeah, it would be great to make the dance, but i never thought that was possible. the great part is that i can see the future will be bright. too bad we don't have Gatens for another year.

Do you know there is no such rule that says over the back is a foul? Check a rule book you won't find it. Announcers use the term to help people that don't understand the game as well.

Blaming refs is sad...you have to adjust to what they are calling and expect to get hosed when you aren't at home. He would get a foul if he used his body right. He doesn't put his butt into the guy to box him out he stands straight up because he was 7 foot in hs and never needed to learn how to play physical rebounding basketball...we need to see if reggie evans can come give a clinic on it...or maybe our bigs should just watch any game he plays in.

Blaming the refs is sad but so is saying they can't have a huge influence on who wins a game. Saying you have to adjust is fine but what about when one team has to adjust and the other doesn't?

VT was attacking the basket and Iowa was not. There's no mystery on why they were getting more calls. The push-off call on Marble was questionable, but I did not see a lot of other bad calls.

This exactly why the fouls were different. Plus when you look at the fouls we typically fouled when they were shooting and most of theirs were not. That is the difference in the free throw attempts.

Look at the difference in the games we won versus lost. 2 things are striking...1) domination in the paint by the other team and 2) domination of the point guard position.

We have a lot of talent but we also have a lot of learning to do. Especially at the 1 and 5 spots.
