Two things I like about Fran

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised he opened up about Uhl's PT in the last game. It shows coaches are human and often get caught up in the game. In actuality, I think it lit a fire under Uhl's butt as he had a great overall game against Rutgers and in addition his comments give Uhl a boost of support.

Did Fran disguise his praise of Uhl by insisting that he needs to get his weight up? Just curous....

Couldn't agree more. I would bet the media enjoys talking to him as much as any coach. There's a lot less coach speak with him. He's much more specific with things and like the OP mentioned he strait up called himself out for not having played Uhl much the previous game. That said because of that Uhl played pretty inspired ball where it counted. Defensively this team was struggling and he gave them a boost. Not to mention his offense and free throws. He made like 4 or 5 big ones. It's just too bad that Iowa can't have most of their kids playing well all at once. Cook didn't look so hot. Moss didn't play his best game either. But young teams your going to have that. At least they got the win.

I like how he actually answers questions that the media asks. As opposed to some coaches who drone on and on in a monotone and fail to answer the question asked by piling on a heap of coach-speak giving the same old tired cliche answers they always give.

Can't put a finger on which coach I hear around here speak like that....hmmm.....let me think....

1. Connor.
2. Patrick.

Not to be negative here but what analysis is this based upon? High school analysis is very sketchy as it based on stats and those stats can change based on the level of talent you are playing at the high school level. I am not saying they won't be great players but at this point it is total conjecture.

Case in point; Iowa had recruited a player that was considered to be one of, if not the top point guards at the Junior College level. He had been labeled an All American JC player. The guy wet the bed when he got up against Big Ten players.

I hope they are great players and both go on to be All Big Ten and all Americans. I not being critical of your comments but just trying to be tempered in my expectations.

That was an ugly game against a team (Rutgers) that is one of the worst, if not the worst team in the conference. Baer and Uhl showed up to play and most of the rest of the team seemed to show up to scrimmage. I hope they are not getting burned out already.

I would love to see us turn the table on Purdue and pay them back.

Did you see how Nebraska played against Northwestern? That was a brutal game a few days earlier.

3 games in 8 days will do that... both IA and Neb had that to contend with...

That is pretty much the schedule the entire B1G season. You have games Wed/Thur and Sat/Sun. I think you get two off days during the conference slate. Iowa has the weekend of the 21st/22nd off in Jan and weekday game during Feb. off, so they don't play from Feb. 11th to the 18th.
