I hope they are given a fair trial and have all evidence weighed by a jury of their peers.
I had a friend who was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault of a Minor a few years ago and it ruined his life. Most of his friends abandoned him ... and since the victim was his adopted niece, it tore apart the family, with most of them abandoning him, as well. He lost his job with a prominent business, as well as his consulting contract.
Long story short, it was a lie. Girl made it up. All charges were dropped, but by then, his name and photo had been in the papers and on TV, and no matter how hard you try, that is something you can never put back into the bottle. He eventually had to move half-way across the country to find a job anywhere close to what he was getting paid.
So, while I take every accusation serious, I wait to let the court have their say. JMHO
Still, in the case of a college athletic team, if the team or school wishes to cut loose a player or multiple players, so be it. Quintez Cephus went through hell, maybe, but he DID make it back to the team, so as long as the avenue of return is possible, that's probably a good thing.
Say Cephus gets drafted in the 6th round by the Chiefs and develops into Mahomes' go to guy for the next 8 years. Top 5 in yards and TDs for close to a decade. The impairment of his image as a result of the charge will stick with him forever and his ability to get endorsements will be a fraction of what it would be otherwise.
Totally agreed. I'm just saying the whole thing could be made up and it could wind up costing the guy millions of dollars down the line. These sorts of allegations are just a mess. Accusations can be made, memories and perceptions are bad, proof is difficult to come by, guilty guys walk and innocent guys sometimes pay the price. The whole thing just sucks for everyone involved.Yeah, but, until it was resolved, they had no choice but to hold him out, at a minimum.
