TV Hawk Fan Sighting

Kind of a weird show to see a Hawk fan on. Watching Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives and it's their Holiday show taped in North Pole, Alaska. Anyway, they were showing a Chinese food place and one of the guys they interviewed about the food was decked out in a Hawk hat and shirt. Apparently Hawk fans have now occupied the arctic.

I have lots of friends and family that live in Alaska. Many of them are hawk fans. Hawkeyenation is everywhere!

Ever driven to Alaska? holy smokes long trip...

I love it!

I don't think most IOWA fans even realize what a global (ok, Western Hemisphere) presence we have. Very impressive considering the size of our school and state.

And as much as the East-Campus types might resent it, the entire Univesity benefits from this visibility.

My mother and father drove their pickup and camper up there earlier this summer. They were kinda disappointed I think. 3,000 miles one way I believe it was. I think it'd be better to fly. Save some wear on the ole carcass.

When I first moved to Vegas within the first week of living here, I saw a blacked out mini van with gold tigerhawks on the hood and doors. I have met so many hawk fans out here it is crazy, window flags and hitch covers all over the place I love it.

I too, have heard about the high hawk concentration out there...

Met many hawk fans...my favorite thing when traveling is to hear a go hawks.

My wife, who is from Colorado and has been around me for over twenty years says we have yet to take a trip anywhere in the country without at least one "GoHawks" exchange. It ceases to amaze her. I pretty much just expect it. The wierd pride we carry...love it.

Agreed. I'd be shocked if I didn't hear "Go Hawks!". Every trip it happens, even all the way to Jasper, Alberta, Canada there were KFC patrons with Hawk shirts on. The wife and I sat right next to Mike Elgin's parents while riding on a city bus in Hawaii. All of us wearing Hawkeye gear. Also on the 2002 Orange Bowl trip in the middle of nowhere Florida, saw one of C.J. Jones uncles with a Hawkeye hat. Saw Matt Roth with Hawkeye gear in Key West in 2005.

Also, couldn't believe all of the Hawkeye fans that showed up for fanfest before the B1G Championship game. Even though our team wasn't there our fans were. First people we saw were Marvin McNutt and family, decked out of course with Hawkeye gear.

Never ceases to amaze. Every trip!

A buddy of mine came into work afew years back knowing I'm a huge hawk fan (everyone does it's something I let be known, politely) he said "i met some form iowa football player last night at the bar, he was wearing a Iowa shirt". I said that's cool what was his name? His reply was "Brad Hanks or something like that". After googling Brad Banks and telling him about runner up and all that jazz, my buddy kinda felt like a ******* :)

Hard to miss the McNutt family; they're loud and proud. Love it. We were on the field before last year's Insight walking towards our section and walked right past them in the first rows. We waved to them and I told them "Tell Marvin to come back!" So ya'll can thank me for one of the bright spots in the year's offense. ;):)

Thanks much.
God I'm gonna miss McNutt...........

Whenever we go on a vacation I always wear my hawk hat (actually do that no matter where we go) and every place my wife and I have been we run into at least one hawk fan. Mexico, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, middle east, every where at least one person says "go hawks!"

It is amazing, but sadly I think it has to do with everyone moving away from Iowa.

Well that would obviously play a part in it but I think there is more to it. Those of us that have moved away and have had kids (atleast true for my family) have raised my kids in a Hawkeye fan enviornment. My 5 yr old has been to one game in Kinnick at 2 yrs old and bleeds black and gold, but that is also because he sees me, and his uncles, and his aunt everyone get together on saturdays and have fun yelling at the tv.

I know we have recruited alot of players from out of state that are hawk fans due to them being raised in the same environment as all of us, just not in Iowa. Just my 2 cents.
