Just picked up a copy of The Sporting News pre-season college football issue. I have not had time to read the features yet, just went right to the Big Ten page. Here is their predicted order of finish:

1. Ohio State #2
2. Wisconsin #8
3. Iowa #13
4. Penn State
5. Purdue
6. Northwestern
7. Michigan State
8. Michigan
9. Illinois
10. Minnesota
11. Indiana

They have a ’stock report’ icon by each team…OSU, Wisconsin and Iowa are ‘unchanged’. They have an ‘up’ icon by Penn State and Purdue.

I can see Purdue, but Penn State? They went 11-2 last year…I’d say that would be a ‘down’ icon. But hey, we are talking icons here, not anything of much importance.

They predict Ohio State to the BCS National Title game, Wisconsin to the Orange Bowl and Iowa to the Cap One Bowl against Arkansas from the SEC.
Adrian Clayborn makes their first team All American list and Tyler Sash is a second teamer.

One of the best parts of this magazine is the annual rundown of the college record book for key statistics and the current players that are knocking on the door for some of those records, or to be included high on the list.

Case Keenum of Houston has a shot at Timmy Chang’s passing mark of 17,072 yards; Keenum has 12,950 and he has gone for over 5,000 yards in a year before. He also has 102 touchdown passes, and should break the record of 134 held by Graham Harrell of Texas Tech.

I picked up this issue at Barnes & Noble on University in West Des Moines on 6/1.

Right after last season, even before early draftees announced, TSN had an article covering their top 10 teams for next year. They had OSU 2nd and Wisconsin 8th. Not that much has changed since, but it seems kind of strange that the two teams are the same as they were in January.

Not sure how Badgers are ahead of Iowa. How is their schedule? Come to Kinnick, should be an L. Tolzein isn't that good IMO. I know they are bringing a lot back but lost Schofield. Big part of their D. I have faith that Bret can screw it up somehow.
