Trump supporters, how do you square this?

Not at all. I don't think those are bad goals to have, but nothing leads me to believe those are the guys to take on those tasks. Let Elon build cars and rockets, let RFK, Jr. saw off whale heads, and leave those other tasks to experts.
Nothing leads you to believe that? Musk runs Twitter way more efficiently than it was run before. I understand that you probably don't like what he allows on it. But that part isn't really relevant to the topic of how much more efficiently he runs it. I also understand that you've fallen for the conspiracy theories about RFK so there's probably not much convincing you there. See what I did there?

Come on now....you have to be trolling.

RFK Jr's a looney conspiracy theorist and would absolutely ruin any part of the govt he can get his hands on. He'll ban all forms of vaccines and probably get rid of the FDA. His entire Kennedy family is against him for the stuff he's said and done.

Musk has already said that Trump's economic policies will most likely crash the economy and it's the price Americans will have to pay. Wages will go down because they want to get rid of overtime pay. Good bye social security, Education Department, etc....
He will certainly hold vaccine companies accountable which pretty much everyone should agree on. The FDA allows chemicals in our food that is banned by most other countries. Getting to the bottom of why is a good idea. And Kennedy has a huge family so of course some will disagree politically with him. Most of us can say the same thing. Saying his entire family is against him is either a lie or you're misinformed.

Musk knows how to spend money efficiently. Every one of his companies is proof of that. If he really did say what you say he said, I'd love to see the context. Perhaps it has something to do with what happened to Twitter when he bought it. It crashed right away and mostly came back, but is run at a fraction of the cost now. Politics aside, there's probably not a single person in the world more qualified to cut government spending than Elon Musk. The fact that democrats convinced so many people to hate him is proof of how well their smear tactics work. Same with RFK but to a lesser extent because he was at least relatively unknown before. Musk went from beloved to hated with the flip of a switch.

I really wish you would take a deeper dive into RFK. I don't see how anyone could listen to him and think "yea that makes perfect sense". What he says and what the media says he says couldn't be further apart. You think I've been duped with Trump (which I get) but you've been duped hard on RFK.

Looks like I will have a for sure position in the WH should the Don win. First the love, now this. The man with the thick orange makeup face trusts me all the way.

That's double dupe

I think a majority of people who are voting for Harris are actually voting against Trump. Listening to the Rogan/Trump podcast should be mandatory for every voter. Truth be told, he doesn't even sound very good in it. It very well could be his age catching up with him. But at least people would actually hear from him instead of clips from him. I think one thing people on the left struggle with bad is listening. I'm willing to bet pretty much everyone on here will read this and say "I don't need to listen to him I already know who he is". Problem is, those people have been saying that since day one. They know who he is because they've listened to the media tell him who he is. I can hardly stand hearing Harris talk, but I'm really hoping she does the podcast. 3 hours is a long time. It's hard to fake your way through it. She won't change my vote. But she could very well change my opinion of her.

Decades and decades of facts and records of what Donald Trump has said and done is all I need. He's morally corrupt and a terrible business person (how many failed businesses???). It's all been in front of everyone for years and that's just the stuff that's come out. How many NDA's were signed and people too scared to come out out of fear of retaliation? That's how bullies and people in power like him get away with stuff that the rest of us couldn't.

You've never listened to a long form interview with Kennedy. That's obvious.
Did you like Kennedy before you found out he was playing both sides for a cabinet post and decided to back a Republican? I didn't like him long before he started to support him because of what he's done in his past....but you obviously haven't researched that.

Ok so you've heard all the negative stuff. I doubt you know too much about his success stories. If you allowed yourself access to people who have good things to say about Trump instead of only listening to people who talk negatively about him, you may still have am overall negative opinion of him (which is completely fine) but you most certainly wouldn't have the bitter disdain for him that you have. That's how it works. Just completely flood the news with negative stories and over time, you will change perception of a person. Like I've said before, the legacy media made Trump killing the ISIS leader a negative story for Pete's sake. It's just negative negative negative until you have people saying "I don't need to hear what he says. I already know he's a terrible person."

I'm not saying they're tricking people into thinking a great person is a terrible person (although that would also be easy to accomplish for the legacy media). I'm just saying 100% negativity is clearly going to change perception of someone for the worse. Even if that means changing someone from really bad to Hitler. I'll say it one more time so hopefully it sinks in. They made a negative story out of killing the ISIS leader. That's really messed up.

I started liking him the minute the democratic party shit on democracy by refusing to let him primary against Biden. Truthfully tho, I actually liked him before that and was really struggling with who to vote for if he won the democratic nomination.

Elon Musk disclosed on Twitter Saturday that, due to a 50% drop in advertising revenue and a “heavy debt load,” the platform still has a negative cash flow.

Did you like and respect Bill Cosby in the 1980's and 90's? He was everyone's TV Dad. Right? What do you think of him now, knowing what he's always been like?

Did you like OJ Simpson when he was a football star and having a major roll in the Naked Gun movies? What do you think of him now?

These are bad people who have been able to hide behind fame, power and money.

Are we not to believe someone is bad because 50 to 100+ people have shared their stories or found out they're killers? What's the number that it's going to take??? Hitler type numbers??

He was never going to win the primary. Just because most Republicans can be duped by a nut job, doesn't mean that Democrats will as well.

Twitter has lost 80% of its value since he purchased.

Politics aside, there's probably not a single person in the world more qualified to cut government spending than Elon Musk.

Being really good at one thing (and he is a really good engineer and entrepreneur) does NOT make you really good at everything. He has absolutely murdered the value of twitter, and for all of his talent, he is erratic and either gullible or not especially concerned with the truth.

I understand your points and I respect them. I think we agree on most things.

But this country is not an oligarchy. It is a duopoly. We use the term oligarchy to mean a small group of people running everything, which may be true at a given point in time, but what we truly have is a duopoly. There are two ruling parties in this country who have absolute power over literally everything in government, they just take turn back and forth as far as who’s in charge at a particular point in time.

No one else has a chance to become president, full stop…not debatable. If you are not a republican or democrat, you have quite literally zero chance. On paper there is a technical chance, but we’re not dealing with paper, we’re dealing with reality.

What about the house and senate? Aren’t there independents? Yes. And now we need to look at how much a non-democrat/republican has actual power to affect change.

When was the last time an independent drafted a bill of any significance that passed? When was the last time a house or senate vote was decided by anything other than a democratic or republican majority?

You used the phrase “a government beholden to its voters.” I like the idea, but again the only way the government is beholden to its voters is on paper. In reality it’s the other way around. The duopoly decides what choices you have and thus they aren’t beholden to anyone. We are beholding to the offerings they decide to give us. Ross Perot running as an independent was a noble move against the machine and raised some eyebrows, but let’s be honest. Even in the 90s that idea was long dead before it popped in his head.

Oligarchy is a euphemism with respect to American politics. Call it what it is…a duopoly that decides what we get to vote on.

I often wonder what it would take to fix things. I have heard defenses of the 2-party system, but it feels like our current system is akin to trotting out Deacon Hill at QB over and over. There is no guarantee that going a different direction is going to be better, but it CANNOT be any worse.

I think primaries should be done away with, they just force each party further towards their fringes. Political parties should have conventions, and each party should put forth whomever they feel is the best candidate. Let the people decide in the general election, we don't need to be put through this crap twice.

I also think ranked-choice voting could solve some of these problems. No one who actually cares about the election results will vote for Stein, or RFK Jr., or Cornell West, because it is obvious they do not have large enough coalitions to win, and hence it is a wasted vote. But if people knew that if their first choice was eliminated, they still got to vote for their 2nd choice, it would be much easier to reach a critical mass of voters in support of someone other than GOP or Democrat. Ranked-choice voting also leads toward more moderation and less extremism.

I also think our country is hungry for new parties, especially in highly polarizaed areas (deep red or deep blue). Perry Bacon makes a good case for a "Great Jobs and Great Schools" party (pro business, socially more liberal than GOP) to run against Democrats in deep blue areas, and a "Leave Us Alone" party (economically liberal, libertarian leaning) to oppose GOP in deep red areas.

There is a lot of common-sense stuff that a majority of people want, but no party has an appetite for because it upsets the fringes (or the politicians themselves)...

Prohibit stock trading among members of congress and their spouses
Secure the border while facilitating immigration of skilled workers
Minimize the role of money in politics
There should be commonsense gun control

If a party was formed centering around some of these ideas, and the electoral system was tweaked, I think it could get traction.

Perhaps Musk will be named to head up the Immigration Reform efforts.
He certainly has the experience.
