True Frosh to play this year

Any chance you can repost this here? This is being blocked by my work.

Basically states that Morris, Kirksey, and C.J. would play if the game was today. Doesn't state any other names.

Edit: How freakn fast of a typer do you have to be around here?

Kirksey is a LB but would guess he and Morris will be the special team guys. I would put Kirksey as the surprise of year unless Tanner Miller plays too.

I think KF played 11 freshmen 4 years ago so 6-7 would only be slightly above average.

Nothing earth shattering on any of this but KF also mentioned:

-Donnie Nordmann is now on 'ship.
-Would prefer to have Jewel and Adam back on KR but with depth concerns at RB he would they won't risk it.
-I don't know if he was being funny in KF's dry way but he said that James is a better player than Brian.
-First OL he mentioned after the starting five was Nolan McMillan and Brett Van Sloten FWIW. (Note: He mentioned Hundertmark as being in the mix and adding depth too. So who knows.)
-After Sandeman at PR it sounds like it goes McNutt and then Sash.

If I can think of anything else I will add it.

Obviously Morris, CJ, and Kirksey are going to play. My bets as to the others: DeAndre Johnson and/or Coker, Lowery, Tanner Miller. A few guys will be primarily special teams, but Johnson/Coker, CJ, Morris and Kirksey will get some time at their respective positions as well. That's JMO.

James Morris and C. J. playing doesn't surprise me. I expected them to play this year.

What does surprsie me is 6 or 7 true freshmen having a chance to play given the veteran team Iowa has this year. I'm taking this as a pleasant surprise and not because of injury or some other problem with some of the more experienced players that may require true frosh to step in.

Okay, that tells me that I wasn't imagining things at the spring game. McNutt really is a lot quicker and faster than he was a year ago. No other good reason to put a guy that valuable and that big back on punt returns.

This is just speculation on my part but I wonder if the walk-on kicker from Dubuque (Meyer) has a chance to earn kickoff duty this year. Neither Mossbrucker or Murray have huge legs and that a reputation that Meyer has. Plus, he looked pretty solid in the open practice in FGs and is listed on the depth chart. Last year Iowa struggled on kickoffs with distance.

Thanks for posting this 72. Since you are a regular to these things, do you think if Gettis' ankle injury was substantial that he would have mentioned it in this type of setting?

Good point.

I can see him kicking off for more distance.

So with Meyer possibly handling kickoff duties, where does that leave Jonny Mullins? Is he going to redshirt?

Not necessarily. No. I think with key player injuries that KF plays it close to the vest. He did say that a couple of guys were getting evaluated based on stuff that happened in practice on Sunday but he said for the guys dealing with stuff prior to Sunday's practice that all of them 'had a chance' for Saturday. So we will see.
