True Frosh to play this year

Okay, that tells me that I wasn't imagining things at the spring game. McNutt really is a lot quicker and faster than he was a year ago. No other good reason to put a guy that valuable and that big back on punt returns.

I think Kirk values catching the ball first and foremost...after that, just get 7 to 10 yards.

Nothing earth shattering on any of this but KF also mentioned:

-First OL he mentioned after the starting five was Nolan McMillan and Brett Van Sloten FWIW. (Note: He mentioned Hundertmark as being in the mix and adding depth too. So who knows.)

Im guessing the Hundertmark rumor is false then.

Don't forget blocking... you can catch and run all day long, but if you can't block for KF then you won't get much time to catch any passes.

I agree with that, but I thought Chaney did a pretty good job last year. He's got wheels, but he does a good job of catching the ball first, and doesn't fumble it. I just wouldn't think that we would put McNutt back there and risk injury JUST because he would be a reliable guy fielding punts, when there are other, less important players who can do the same thing.

We were talking about punt returns lol. McNutt is listed #2 PR, and I felt like that confirmed what I thought I was seeing at the spring game: McNutt is way quicker and faster than last year.

I am very suprised also that Chaney is no where to be found on the PR list. I would think he would be 2nd in line as he may actually be a better punt returner than Sandeman.

And, please, let's catch it more often rather than letting the ball hit the ground and bounce another 10-15 yards downfield.

KF said at MMQB today that as many as 6 or 7 true frosh could play this year but that Morris, Kirksey and Fiedorwicz would play if gm today.
I think we'll see a lot of 2TE sets, with CJ going in motion to get a better start off the line of scrimmage. If he can run a halfway decent pass route, he's going to create a lot of mismatches.

While McNutt might have picked up a bit of speed since last year, I don't think that has anything to do with it. That job is usually reserved for a guy with good hands and nerves of steel. Returning punts is not for the faint of heart.

Like I said earlier, why McNutt over Chaney, when Chaney displayed all the essential abilities that Ferentz wants in his PR? I know I'm not putting McNutt back there over Chaney unless McNutt has also gotten faster/quicker. He's too valuable to put back there simply for reliability, when there are guys like Chaney who are just as reliable. I don't put McNutt back there unless he's going to be a gamebreaker PR like Dez Bryant was for Oklahoma State.
