Tristan Wirfs and the draft

From espn.com:

Iowa's Tristan Wirfs also had a notable effort on Friday, as the 320-pound offensive tackle put up a vertical jump of 36.5 inches -- the best by any offensive lineman at the combine since 2006. He topped Morgan State tackle Joshua Miles' jump of 36 inches at last year's combine.

Wirfs' vertical topped combine efforts by DeAndre Hopkins (36 inches), A.J. Green (34.5) and Amari Cooper (33) from previous years, and was better than the vertical leap of 26 wide receivers who worked out Thursday at the combine.

Wirfs also ran a 4.86 (unofficial) 40-yard dash, which would be the fastest by any player at least 320 pounds since 2006. The previous fastest was 4.92 by offensive lineman Greg Robinson in 2014.

Wirfs' broad jump of 10 feet, 1 inch was also a combine record for offensive linemen.
That's fucking nuts

Fantasy pros must not believe TW's record breaking numbers are correct. He couldn't possibly put up those numbers without "Elite" athleticism.
"Elite athleticism". Just a guess, but as evaluated by this guy, more fantasy than pro:

For as good as Wirfs was, Epenesa has been about the opposite. 5.04 40, only 17 reps on the bench. Haven't seen his vertical or broad jump yet.

iirc, Epenesa’s vertical was 32.5. His numbers have been underwhelming, not sure if it will affect him or not in terms of where he gets drafted.

My son had the misfortune of lining up against Wirfs in high school when Wirfs was a junior. It was a long night for my sons team. He also faced Juan Harris that same year. He made the comment after playing against both that "If Juan Harris is a four star player, Tristan Wirfs should be a six star"

I've seen 3 mock drafts since the combine. 2 had Wirfs going 4th and one had him going 8th. AJ was 22 in one and had dropped out of the 1st round in the other 2. A 4th mock had Wirfs going 6th, but it was only a top 10 mock.

I really don't like it when players move that much due to the combine. Their tape hasn't changed. Why does Tristan move up? Did they not see him leading the way for a RB 40 yards downfield? Have they not seen his footwork? Have they not seen him pass block or blow a guy off the line? Have they not seen AJ bull rush an OT or club or dip past them? Have they not seen him speed rush or play inside? I follow the combine as closely as anyone, but seriously, if these "experts" are going to be influence that much by guys performances in shorts, then, in my opinion, they really have no clue.

I think the main reason why Wirfs has moved up is because with his draft performance and measurable it shows he is big enough and athletic enough to play tackle, which some people had doubts The tackles are still probably one the top three most sought after positions and he should make some money.

For AJ it is going to be about when he is available based on what teams need at the time. I think his performance showed that he isn't an athletic freak and isn't worth picking up if you already have some good pass rushers. AJ has a ton of tape versus good competition but the reality is he didn't perform well. That could change at his today but again that will happen after mock draft 20.0. Lots of moving parts.

The thing about AJ that you can't measure is heart. I've never seen anyone have the impact on a game like he did over the last half of the season.
