Trevor Ruhland

4 star o-lineman out of Illinois last year. Father was an Iowa MVP. Mother an Iowa grad. By his own admission, he would have gone to Iowa. Several big ten schools recruited him. Norte Dame got him. Iowa did not offer. Article on him in BHGP.

Really, a 4* legacy player doesnt get an offer. Does anyone know if the recruiters even talked to him and his parents?

Pretty head scratching deal there.... The Waechter kid was kind of looked at as a reach wasn't he? He enrolled early but in the coaches eyes if it came down to an either or situation would it have been between him and Ruhland? I don't remember hearing any buzz on that kid at all but from his predigree and offer list it is weird that he wasn't at least on the radar more let alone never offered. Maybe there are red flags that aren't mentioned who knows. But just from what little there is I'd love to know what the deal was. There are two Urbandale Olineman that seem to be in a somewhat similar boat. I had a thread started on them in the Recruiting forum.... It'd be interesting to know subjectively how they evaluate kids

he's a guard/center, i'd bet. i'm thinking iowa is pretty well 'stocked' at those positions - and not by sub 4* players, either. sometimes it's just a numbers game.

i'm guessing that of the 4 OL that iowa signed in this class, that 3 are projected as OT guys, and 1 projected to guard/center - and that is Daniels.

So, I think, it comes down to this. They took 1 guy in Ruhland's position - would you rather have Ruhland or Daniels?

I like Iowa's choice.

"Pork chop sideburns and black war paint streaking down his face"
.....well, there ya go. He's got a personality. Can't have a personality on a KF coached team. He probably had a Twitter account too.

Ruhland's not playing C at ND.

My guess is that "he didn't do some good things", "still has a ways to go" or "he didn't work hard" as the only reasons I can think of that KF wouldn't recruit him. Those are his go to's that he uses for everything in life.

I heard KF talking about his wife the other day and he said, "she done some good things, still has a ways to go though, but she's working hard".

at 6'4" - and that might be a stretch as these measurements tend to be - i'd bet if he plays he plays g/c. time will tell.
He's the same size or bigger than all of our OL commits from last year. 1 inch separates all of them and Ruhland's heavier.
Newborg - 6'4 and 270lbs
Paulson - 6'4.5 and 248lbs
Paulson - 6'5 and 268lbs
Waechter - 6'5 and 250lbs

Ruhland - 6'4 and 285lbs

Newborg may very well end up a DT from what I've heard of him and I wouldn't rule out Reiff ending up on the Oline much like his brother did either...

This Ruhland kid intrigues me in that we'll keep an eye on how his career goes now for sure. I care more about him then Ross P at this point... And that's a sore subject with me too.

Newborg recruited as a DT

if you look at recruiting services - they list Ruhland as a OG. They list Waecher as an OT. They list one Paulsen a guard, one a tackle, but that was certainly a package deal.

I'm guessing it is as simple as that, a numbers game.

Possibly...I think they bring in X amount of bodies for Oline and go from there. I don't know if they cement them all into positions so much before they are on campus. I mean like in Daniels case yes I think he's being brought in to be a center and should almost have a shot as a starter there his RS freshman yr. But the rest I think they will get them into camp start working with em and shuffle em around from there. I bet they have an idea of where to start them but it's just that till they start working with them. You might have the Paulsons together on the same side of the line like they were in HS or maybe as bookend tackles. If Myers ends up being good he's got 3 yrs to play tackle as Ike will have 2. It's just too early to know all that and the coaches probably aren't penciling any of them anywhere just yet.

kfootball doesn't miss very often on OL's. Now, this kd being a legacy adds some impact, particularly, if he does pan out. But it is also possible that this kid didn't fit the Iowa prototype as well, either. Anyway, as much recruiting guff that kfootball does deserve, OL's aren't typically included.

Considering the scholarships we waste on kickers/punters we could have used one. It's not like it's a lock that we have to many all-Americans lined up. To me it has the feel of some personal feelings with KF.

What you get a freebie on a 4 star recruit @ Iowa, you take it. No questions asked. Can we just buy this guy out already. Please.
