Transfer Punter To Keep an Eye On

I exchanged messages with JD this morning. I had his number after writing a recruiting story about him when he was coming out of high school and Iowa was interested.

Doyle is interested in Iowa. I'm looking into the Hawkeye interest.

Doyle earned freshman all-American honors in '18 and was a Ray Guy Award finalist. He was named to the Guy Watch list before this season but then lost his starting job midway through the campaign. He averaged 41.1 last season and 41.4 this season.

Iowa ended up offering Ryan Gersonde at punter in the '17 class and Doyle walked on at Tennessee.

So I'm guessing Gersonde just isn't developing like we thought he could?

I know he's dealt with some terrible injury luck, but I remember someone (it may have been you Rob), mentioning what a big leg he has during one pregame warmup, but his operation was terribly slow and inconsistent.

It just seems strange, our recent luck at the punter position, when we used to be spoiled by guys like Donahue, Coluzzi, and Guthrie.

I thought Gersonde looked pretty good this past spring.

Then he suffered a season-ending injury, which stunts development and leaves the coaches unsure what they have.

rob just get this deal done. We need him.

From an Iowa perspective they would always like two competitors at each position and let the best punter win.

I would be happier if his punt average were 2-3 yards more.

It would also be the 2nd straight year we got a P5 guy because he lost his starting spot at his previous school. It would be great if there was an FCS guy out there who could boom it that was looking to try his hand at the B1G.

I bet LWoods and KF are looking for anything around 40-41 yards that is consistent, high punts with good hang time. And the ability to deaden the ball inside the 15 yard line. Consistency is good here

Yes, 44 yards would be great but if little hang a lot of the time then a good return hurts the net punting. If most games the worst you are punting from is your own 30 or so then the other team gets the ball at their 30 or so and has to move about 50 yards even for a long FG try.

LeVar Woods inferred there might be another Australian punter coming in, but I don't think he's a transfer. From what I understand, he'd be like a freshman from the states.

I'm not trying to be a wise ass here, but what kind of serious injury would a punter suffer?

I don't know the exact injury but I saw him several times during the season around the facility and he was in a walking boot. The coaches said he hasn't been able to punt since the summer. Could be a stress fracture in his foot.

Any information on who this punter is?

I've tried Sleep-Dalton and the Australian Kicking club that produces all of these punters. The tell me there is something in the works but would not give me a name.

I've been working on it for a couple of weeks and have reached a dead end. They're experiencing some awful wildfires over there right now, so that could be delaying the process.

As long as the next one brings over a Roo with them:)

Amazing that there's not someone in-state coming out of high school who has decent stats. Where's the next Nick Gallery or Reggie Roby coming from?
