Tracking 2012 Class Offers

Either way, it's looking like the length of service and solid state of our coaching staff might pay dividends as we hit the home stretch this recruiting season, especially with recruits who've been through all the coaching changes/sanctions/PSU mess this year.. or committed to said institutions early.

That was Brodell, Stross was never allowed to field punts (I'm just making the last part up, I have no clue) but Jovon Johnson had one and technically Clayborn. Also, DJK had one against Minnesota (KO return)

Don't forget DJK had one against OSU in 2009. :D

Tevaun Smith has committed to Iowa (as other threads have detailed, just keeping the actual recruiting thread updated for a running list).

I trust the staff, but it's still a bit odd to see 4 2-Star recruits on Iowa's list of 16..

To be fair, I guess 1 is a kicker (Which rarely get 3-Stars) and Tevaun Smith thoroughly impresses on film..

Haven't seen much from Buford or Ruben Lile's friend Laron Taylor

Iowa had 5 two stars last year, 5 in 2010 (both pretty good classes), and 4 in the great class of '05.

So what exactly is odd about having 4 two star players recruited this late in the game?

By the way, here's the names of those two star players from 2010 and 2011. You may recognize a few of them:

Anthony Hitchens
Kevonte Martin-Manley
Tanner Miller
Jonny Mullings
Austin Vier

Damon Bullock
Jordan Canzeri
Marcus Collins
Johny Lowdermilk
Dean Tsopanides

A bit too early to judge the 2011 group but the 2010 group brought us a starting safety, a starting WR, and a backup linebacker/special teams guy. That's a pretty good return. Once again, this is the area KF excels at I'm not sure why people get up in arms when he signs a two star player.

Smith's 2* rating is deceptive just because of the lack of exposure he has had in the US. I think once Rivals goes back over the ratings he will be bumped up. If you compare his stats with other 3-4* receivers he is right in with them.

I'm not up-in-arms.

I watched the Tevaun film.. understand the circumstances.

Kickers are kickers.

I'm a happy camper so far.

Just antsy for some of the bigger targets..

The "up in arms" comment wasn't directed at you, it was a comment on some of the posts I saw in the thread about Buford's commitment.

Looking at the class I would love to see...

Garmon...Malloy as the only RB is not good.
Boehm...a year to develop behind Ferentz and possibly a 4 year starter.
Lambert...need more than one LB, could possibly be a DE

After that it could go lots of different ways.

either way you want to take that comment we lose nobody this year
McCall hasn't left
and yet people are fretting about RB's leaving
and you say we need more than 1 rb in this class
we have 4 rb's listed as HS
and 2 listed as RS FR
so i fail to see the need for more than 1 rb
Garmon is the top target and on the 3rd of Jan we will know his destination

why is Malloy not good?

Bringing in a guy with a torn ACL and a criminal history (regardless of how major or minor his history is, it exists) as the only running back recruit is a huge risk. He definitely could be a player, and I would be thrilled if he is; unfortunately, he has enough baggage that it's in the best interests of the team to bring in another guy alongside him.

I'm thinking:

2x RB
1x QB
1x OL (Maybe 2 if the right commits want "in")
1x LB
2x DE/DT (DL)

Is the ideal breakdown to finish the class.

I hope the following are involved:

Either Garmon or Lynch
Lambert
Either Kozan/O'Connor/Boehm
2 of either Lohn/Curry/Sheffield
1 of our recent offered QBs

more than likely we end up like this

2 QB's 1 a juco and 1 a HS
1 RB more than likely Garmon
2 O-L
no D-L
1 DB
1 WR
i feel they are recruiting more WR and DB than are needed
we need D-L people
