I think the actual records should be compared to expected records. It'd be easier to see what conferences were actually living up to their seeds.

The media will look at the Big East's overall record and think they're doing well but three out of the four games they have lost have been to lower seeds. In my opinion that is much more damning than when a Penn State loses as a 10 seed to a 7.

That and margin of defeat...

BigTen's 5 wins were all double-digit, IIRC, and the two losses were by a couple points

Pac Ten is 3-1. USC lost in the first round. Why would anyone exclude first round losses?

I don't think anybody's trying to say that 1st round losses should be overlooked, but that seeding should be taken into consideration. Penn St. and Mich St. both lost (as expected according to the seedings) by very narrow margins. Michigan and Illinois will in all likelihood, lose next round. However, they both proved to be far superior to their opponents who were supposed to be their equals. Most likely, they will each end up 1-1 for the tournament even though both teams have already proven they're much better than the majority of teams in the field.

I find it really dumb that the 4 "play in games" are considered the first round, when it was only 2 teams that played for the play in games it was never considered first round. It actually confussed the hell out of me when they kept showing that they're in the 2nd round

I am going to start ranking the conferences by payout (units) first, then winning %.
There were a total of 126 units given out in 2010, not sure if or how the extra 3 teams effects the payouts. Each unit was valued at $222,206 (as of 09-10). Once the 4th round starts i will update the units, win or lose.

Notre Dame is getting killed tonight. Only 15 minutes left in the game and ND has 26 points. If they go down that will leave the Big East with only Marquette and UConn.
