I actually think our bend but don't break defense plays right into Michigan's biggest weakness, long drives and red zone offense. When the field is short in the red zone DR has less space to move in, thus you see them passing more as they did against MSU. Since DR is not a very accurate passer this plays into our hands.
If we can stop the big plays we will have no trouble holding Michigan to less than 21 points. I predict lots of field goals by Michigan this week, which should be a victory for Iowa.
This is how i see it happening also.
*Play our normal Offense of running between the tackles and play action against a weak front four and bad secondary.
*Play assignment football on defense.
*Make DR beat you with his arm.
I'm going to get blasted, but I see us losing this game 7 or 8 out of 10 time.
Michigan 41
Iowa 24
I don't know about you guys, but this one worries me a little. Am I the only one whose sphincter puckered at the end of the game last year when Denard Robinson came in? Their offense couldn't move the ball at all on us with Forcier back there. Denard comes in and they start marching down the field. Luckily he made an ill-advised throw for a pick, but they moved the ball on our D which was arguably just as good as this year's D.
I think the Hawks are capable of winning it by 2-3 TDs if they tackle well and stay disciplined. I want to see our safeties wrapping up Denard when he gets loose and not loading up and going for the big hit like they seem to be doing all the time this year.
I also think they're just as capable of losing by a small margin. I don't see us getting blown out by Michigan in any scenario, but I'm not chalking up the win yet either by a long shot.
Last year DRob was an unknown commodity, when he got playing time against Iowa after Forcier got hurt.
No team had seen DRob up to that point. How do you prepare for a guy you've never seen play?
Michigan is a year or two away from being really good.
michigan is NOT the 2006 rose bowl champion team of texas and denard robinson IS NOT vince young. he exploited terrible defenses, and got exploited against a solid defense.
44-21, iowa
Michigan is infinite years away from being really good if they stick with their 3-3-5 and current (lack of) defensive recruiting focus.
