Top In-State Player 4 Years In a Row

Obviously things can change, but it seems like we have a pretty good chance of signing the best in-state player the next four years:

2016: Cordell Pemsl (PF)
2017: Connor McCaffrey (PG)
2018: Joe Weiskemp (SG)
2019: Patrick McCaffrey (SF)

I like that all 4 guys play different positions. Locking down Iowa and getting players out of Chicago seems like a really good recruiting strategy.

Plus the fact that other players are going to want to play with these guys. Especially the McCaffery's and Weiskamp. Before it's all said and done it is very possible that all three of them could end up being 4 star recruits. The fact they have all committed so early may hurt their chances there, but who cares. They are going to be well known and other kids are going to want to play with a core of players like that. It could help Fran land an elite athlete or two.

And I have yet to see confirmation that Patrick committed to Iowa yet. Link?

Wieskamp still isn't the youngest commit to Iowa's future roster. McCaffery's son Patrick just finished his eighth-grade year and confirmed to an ESPN audience last November that he was going to play for his father.
The announcement does further enhance the Hawkeyes' in-state presence. Iowa has already received verbal commitments from Dubuque Wahlert's Cordell Pemsl and McCaffery's other son at Iowa City West, Connor.
"I like all the guys that are there now, plus Connor, Patrick and Cordell," Wieskamp said. "They're all great guys, and I look forward to playing with them."

Thanks!:D I was actually just being sarcastic.

So with Patrick "committing" to Iowa then that means Fran is at least planning on being the head coach at Iowa through the 2023 season. Once Connor signs on the dotted line then Fran is pretty much locked in at Iowa for 6 more years if he wants to coach both of his sons. All of this is of course assuming he keeps Iowa on the right track that they're currently on and doesn't get fired. I'm talking purely from Fran's mindset as far as coaching at Iowa as opposed to moving on a-la Hoiberg. I dig it.

For reference, 2023 would be Fran's 13th season at Iowa. 13 seasons was also the duration of Tom Davis' tenure at Iowa. Pretty crazy to think about

I have no idea how old Fran's youngest son Jonathan is or if he even plays basketball

And the elephant in the room is whether the McCaffrey brothers are really that good or is this all a courtesy rating systems give to sons of coaches?

Just keeping it real and I hope they are the real deals.

Well I think Connor is deserving of the ranking he's earned at this point in his career. It's not like he's facing a bunch of scrubs day in and day out.

I have not seen Connor. I have Patrick and he's the real deal.

You could actually add Jok to this list as well as Uthoff, who both were the highest rated kids in the state their years. Woody was 2nd behind Paige, so... one could say Fran is doing a better than average job of keeping the top players from Iowa at home.

Cyfans are butthurt over the Weiskemp commit. First saying that they didn't want him. Then after TJ offered they're saying Fred wouldn't have offered. Now saying they'll get the kid to flip because Fran and his staff may not even be there in 2018. I find it funny that they're questioning Fran's job security when they're bringing in a new coach who's never coached anything close to a power 5 school or even a lower level school like ISU. They're also saying if Fran had the same results at ISU that he has at Iowa he would be fired because ISU wouldn't tolerate that lack of failure. Of course ISU was committed to McDermott for another year until he left on his own for Creighton. I will admit they would never tolerate even mediocraty with their football program.

Does anybody know if Fran's kids will be walkons like Doug McDermitt at Creighton his senor year. It would give us a big advantage to expand our roster to 15. From what I've seen of Connor, he's a pass first point guard. He tries to set up his team mates. He rarely commits a turnover. He reminds me of Josh Gasser from WI. He really dosen't stand out but he makes everyone else better.

It would be a definite advantage but IMO, his kids are going to be good enough that they can go anywhere in the country to school for free and that should be the case at Iowa too.

The state of Iowa is killing it with basketball talent lately. For the last 5 years to 5 years from now you could build a national championship contender around Iowa kids.

Can't tell if serious or not. They've been OK and will be OK but let's slow the roll down a little.
