Tonight's game is the biggest Iowa basketball game of this decade

OK4P spot on man! Can't think of a bigger or more important came than the one to be played tonight.

BTW...I am a Carmody fan and hope the AD keeps him at Northwestern for many more years. The guy is a class act and if left in place will get them into the NCAA tournament.

My biggest concerns is the lineup moves tonight. Fran has to stay away from problematic lineups that pose matchups and see that and make quick hooks. To often this season we see our best players sit for to long, I really hope that doesn't happen tonight. We need this W..

In 2005: Horner(39), Brunner(37), Haluska(37), Henderson(34) and Thomas(26) played 175 of 200 minutes. Thomas was the changable piece.

A lot of that had to do with the terrible depth that team had.

When Pierce was booted midseason, it moved Henderson into the starting lineup.

IIRC, our bench consisted of Carlton Reed, Alex Thompson and Doug Thomas. Just another season where Iowa wasnt playing with a full deck in regards to scholarship players on the roster.

The current bench is more talented and deeper than the 2005 team that beat MSU.

The only issue I have with Fran's subbing patterns is his hockey line changes. I hate having the entire 2nd unit on the floor at the same time.

Who is BTR? Anyway people use NW because they are idiots. I've tried to explain this to no avail.

I would never deny that I am an idiot in many ways, but I think the following is logical:

NU = Nebraska

NW = Northwestern

Otherwise, it is very confusing to distinguish between the two schools.

You could also use NWU for Northwestern

Olaseni is playing much better but it hasn't been against a physical team like Michigan State. He has to step up and play through physical contact in a very physical game. It's important that we are able to play McCabe when we want to not because we have to...McCabe can play physical and will have to get in there and get dirty if there are foul issues and/or Olaseni isn't putting the hurt on guys.

My memory gets foggy, but wasn't Alex Thompson a frosh in 2005-2006 when he hit the monster 3 to sink OSU in the Big Ten title game? And wasn't Erek Hansen on that squad as well? He transferred from a juco but dang, that seems like ages ago and just yesterday at the same time. Getting old.

Carlton Reed - that's a name I haven't heard forever.

I agree and as long as everyone knows what it means...who cares. Use any abbreviation you want at any time as long as I can figure it out I could care less. I'm not too concerned about being called an idiot when considering the source...

This is a game I'd like to Gesell go 30+, but with him coming back from an injury hopefully we can get a solid 20-25+ out of him, I would prefer not to see him and Marble out at the same time, but if those are two are both out we certainly need Basabe and White in together. We need to avoid the long scoring droughts tonight like others have said.

Thompson was a sophmore when he hit that 3. Then before we knew it he took his talents to Ames.

NU = Northwestern University
UNL = University of Nebraska Lincoln

It isn't Northwestern's fault that Nebraska folk are too dumb to properly abbreviate the name of their school. I am from Iowa, therefore I have the mental capacity to understand that Univeristy of Nebraska Lincoln does not translate into NU.

Plus, people made this mistake long before Nebraska joined the B1G.

U of I = University of Illinois
U of I = University of Iowa
IU = Indiana University

See - the closer you are to civilization, the more likely it is that people can abbreviate correctly.

Here is the box score from that game.

Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Michigan State Spartans - Box Score - March 11, 2005 - ESPN

I forgot about Jack Brownlee. Exactly what I meant about another team of Alford's that didnt have enough scholarship players.

How good would the 2005-2006 team been with Pierce?

B1G Regular Season champs? Probably.

#1 seed in Big Dance? Possibly.

I've always thought of Northwestern as NW. Nebraska doesn't deserve an abbreviation.

I can't believe I'm about to give any announcer credit but they had it right last night.
Mel and Josh are the difference makers for iowas game tonight.

I agree 100% with that and that Hockey lineshift usually comes around the 11 to 13 minute mark of each half. That is a big, big concern tonight.
