Can't believe it took them this long...

Tennessee announced it released Shonn Greene. Sure when RB heard the news he fell backward.

He seemed to have gotten either old fast or out of shape. Now granted TN had no Oline and even less of a passing game (theres a reason they had the 2nd pick in draft) but he just didn't look good at all the last couple years even when he was in there healthy. Not to mention his high salary that just made it a no brainer. I wonder if they have 5 million committed to the rest of the RBs on the roster combined and he was gong to make over 3...

Will he get another gig before Ray Rice?... Everyone in the media is making a big deal over him not having a job yet. They've pretty much turned him into a victim now. For crying out loud it's not a right to play in the NFL. IF your not good enough to be worth the PR headache he's just not going to get a job. Pretty simple. Yet the media everywhere I see is saying he deserves a 2nd chance... Easy for them to say when they aren't the owners or coaches...

I don't know what kind of shape he's in but I thought it was a bad fit from the start. TN isn't a power run team. Green's best tape is when he was running for Rex's Jets. I think he's worth someone taking a flyer on but likely won't make big money again. He's what? 27 years old? He could sign a 3 year contract with a team before he hits the dreaded age of 30 years old for RB's.

This could very well be it for SG, hopefully his finances are in order. At this point, you can't teach an old dog, new tricks, he needs to be in a one cut zone blocking scheme. Maybe as a backup in Denver or Atlanta would probably be his best bet....he's got about 3 yrs left to collect an NFL pension I just do not think he has enough left in the tank.....maybe I am wrong.

I think he's done, too. He was never fast enough to outrun anyone nor big and powerful enough to run anyone over. Change of position, maybe? Linebacker or, and this is ironic, safety?

If he's smart he won't take the first offer thrown at him if he gets any. Once camps get going next month and in August inevitably there will be some RBs get hurt and he should have some options to pick from. I think he'll get offered league minimum for a vet regardless of the gig so he may as well be picky and find the right fit. Even if that means waiting till the season starts. Not to mention if he can miss out on the summer practices it'll only be that much less wear and tear on him. He don't need all that crap or pre season games at this stage.

Hey ankle, I know every dog has his day. If I had the inclination to find and show you images of number 51 (now retired) for the Ravens eating him up every time he tried the middle. Why, if Greene is so good at running over people, isn't he still in football? His ability screams for the right system. Maybe Baltimore? Anyway, all the pounding he's already received may have sent him packing.

Obviously I have Gold and Black glasses on but I think Mr. Greene has another opportunity to make a difference on a team. I think St. Louis Rams could be a good fit as backup behind Gurley. As someone said before Denver could be a good fit and I could see him making a difference at New England. All that said as a Bears fan I would love to see him in a Bears uniform (but that is not going to happen)

you made a statement, i refuted it with 1 click. that is all.

Six seasons, 4100 yards, 4.1 ypc on his career.... I am not seeing terrible. Isn't that about average production or am I missing something?

And that's with him only having been the "man" but one year or so. Most of the time he was splitting reps with LT Chris Johnson etc...
It's just a what have you done for me lately league and last year he didn't do much as he was nicked up and missed games. When healthy he can still play. I think he's got 2 or 3 decent yrs if healthy and given a chance to be effective. But he won't get the chance to be a bell cow unless the team he ends up on gets guys hurt so he gets more touches.

And I refuted your 1 click refutation by saying every dog including Greene has his day (and showing (and using logic asking if Greene is so good in the pros why is he hunting for a team) that Ray Ray, for example, ate Greene up every time he ran in the middle). Show me a picture of Greene running over some position other than a CB or safety with regularity and I'd be more impressed 'cause CBs and safeties really don't know how to tackle. If you need to show Greene running over CBs and safeties you, IMO, are commenting more on the OL's prowess than Greene's ability.

If you want to talk about Greene's greatness at Iowa, I would tend to agree with you. Not as a pro, though. He's a slow KF running back who needs a particular (one could even say special) system to be successful.

Slow running backs don't play in the nfl. Even KF ones.

No one has said Greene was a great nfl rb.
