tired of radio shows saying ISU/Iowa was a "great" game

So if a player has the best game of his life the aforementioned game can't be great? The Tate to Holloway game wasn't great either. One player made the single most meaningful play of his career so whatever else happened is irrelevant it can't be great.

Iowa was ahead 24-12 and LSU came back late and took the lead with 46 seconds to go. The game itself was not great. The play that you mention WAS great, especially considering the situation.

This game was like a tourney game in early December. It had loads of intensity and both teams knew the importance to their fanbases for this game. Some players played great White being one of them and others not so great but he effort hustle and focus was there by both teams. This thing was a dog fight with both teams trading blows the whole night. Clones just pulled off their best Rocky impression by weathering the hawks blows all night and inched out a win with the help of the home court. Fantasitc game regardless of win/lose that was college hoops right there in all its glory.

So has the OP watched any college basketball games this year? If so, have you seen any great games? If you have, you've seen some games I missed, because I haven't seen any better games than the Iowa/Iowa State game.

No, that was a one-game aberration. One player played the best game of his life that night.

Seth scratches head at failed analogy.

Regardless of the one-hit wonder never doing it before or since, the fact he did it made it a great game.

Really depends on what your definition of "great" is. If your definition of great is top 10% of competitive/entertaining games for a given season, then it was probably "great". If your definition of great is narrower and only includes games like Kentucky-Duke (Laettner game) or Georgetown-Villanova, you would not consider this game to have been "great". Personally, I think it was a "very good" game. If this was an Elite 8 game, I would probably put it in my personal "great" category, but nothing was really on the line with this game other than pride.

So how many teams are actually top 25 caliber? If Iowa and ISU are not, then maybe Kentucky and UNC are not, Kansas and Florida are probably not, Michigan State was not when they played UNC, maybe Arizona wasn't against Michigan.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that "25" teams are "top 25 caliber" at any given time.

Great for the state of Iowa, maybe?

maybe - but people were commenting on how the game was played... it was played okay I didn't think either team played great.

and then the game was given away by missed free throws... it's not like Iowa State just took it.. it was given

Even if I had no bias either way--- decent game... close game just didn't think it was great.

Well you just lost your argument in a land slide then.

Some of the experts thought it was going to be a very good game:

Here's what Hawk Central columnist, Bryce Miller, had to say about the game:

Heck, ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla attended the game — and he wasn’t even working. Fraschilla drove three and a half hours from Kansas City, the site of his television game today between Kansas and New Mexico.
“I decided to see one of the games of the season — in person,†he said.
Truth is, hoops in Iowa hit air so rarified that it took a trip to 1987 to find a time the Cyclones and Hawkeyes faced off as ranked teams.
Blue-chip stock status has returned to the state’s biggest programs at the same time, enough so that the game became must-viewing nationally, from as close as possible.
“I don’t like to shoot my mouth off on TV without doing my homework,†Fraschilla said. “This is one of those games you need to see.â€

Sorry about posting this again, but it seems to fit in this thread.....

If Iowa didn't have their "A" game for most of that game, I'm scared to know the letter grade for ISU during the majority of the game. C-? D+?
