Time for this Coaching Staff and Team to Put Up or Shut Up

The boss's son was thoroughly outcoached by the wise old owl on the other sideline. Hawks were ill prepared for the bright lights of the big stage,.Polasek and BF should back up to the paymaster next payday.
Brian could pick his place to coach, we needed to lock him up. Isn't that the party line?

You are going to lose that $100 bucks. Iowa will win on Saturday. I think KF will rally the troops on this one.

We must have watched different games this past weekend. Penn State is going to roll us. We have about a 1/1,000 chance of winning. What have you seen from Brian that makes you think we can score a TD against a good defense? Penn State's defense makes Michigan look like MTSU.

Now you see me
Now you don't
8-4 is better than going broke
And that is no joke

It's pretty simple. Brian Ferentz is in over his head, period. Nate Stanley is at best an average qb, unless we are playing the bottom feeders in the conference, or a MAC team, then he pads his stats. He has had 2 big wins in his career... OSU, and MSU. Other than that he chokes in big games. There is no excuse for what we saw on the field Saturday. The offense was unprepared, and that falls on Brian. 13th run defense in the conference and we try and throw all day against the 3rd ranked pass defense in the nation. Makes sense. Polasek is an OC, Kirk moved him to Oline, and promoted Brian for no reason at all other than he is his kid. Now we are seeing the absurdity of it all. Brian will have a great plan for Saturday I'm sure. We had our chance to be relevant against a mediocre Michigan team, and shit the bed again.

Couple questions: First, if Stanley is "average at best" then how does he "choke" in big games? If a QB is average then I don't see how they can consistently choke in "big games" if they are nothing more than average to begin with. Also ironic that you only threw Stanley under the bus and didn't comment on the revolving doors, lead by two future NFL linemen, standing in front of him that did anything but block.

Secondly, if Michigan is only mediocre then how would you justify their 3rd ranked pass defense? Not saying they're a great team, but I wouldn't call them mediocre either. Maybe mediocre offensively but I think their defense is considerably better than mediocre.

Sorry go back to your rant. Didn't mean to stop you, as I don't disagree with you completely but think it's only fair that the criticism gets pointed to other pieces of the offense other than Stanley and we give their defense the credit they deserve.

Beat Penn State. Period. Night game at Kinnick. Home crowd. National television. Win the game, and you have a relevant team. Lose, and you are playing for a minor bowl. I''m sorry, but nobody cares about the Holiday Bowl or the Gator Bowl any more.

I'm just tired of the excuses. This is Kirk's 21st season. There is talent on this team. We have a good defense. We have some playmakers on offense, including Goodson, who needs to play more, not less. We were supposed to have a good OLine. Prove it. And please game plan to give your QB a chance. He is not mobile.

We were outcoached against Michigan. Badly. Circle the wagons and beat Penn State. They are beatable. This is a must win. Michigan came out and threw the kitchen sink at us. Why can't we do the same thing to Penn State? We really owe Penn State a beatdown, and I'm sick of their arrogant coach, pedophile enabling program and zombie fans. Time to kick their ass. I want to see an angry, focused team come out of that tunnel against Penn State. They should be pissed off after that disastrous game against Michigan. One game can define a season and a program. That game is this Saturday.

Was our defense outcoached by Michigan? Or you just talking offense? You make a lot of generalizations.

I dont blame the players, they are young men trying as hard as they can. I can put more blame on the coaches for not having them ready or not scouting and preparing well.

Sure but young guys make mistakes. That's the deal. Many many times you actually have to see it and F up before we learn it and react appropriately in the future. Man if that isn't life itself I don't know what is.

I didn’t realize the coaching staff and players were doing a bunch of talking

Broken record.

Do you want to sell me your 50yd line tickets for PSU? Save you some money and you can bitch the same crap after the game?

The scUM loss falls squarely on the coaching staff. As do most of our losses do. Rarely can an Iowa loss be blamed on players. The coaches do not put our players in a position to succeed. And when your athleticism is not as good as your opponents bad things happen.

The nay syaers will bring up the tOSU blow out. But I say that was the heart of the seniors coming out. We won despite our coaches.
What an incredible ----- you are!

Wow! That response was so informative and a great counter to my point. What a wordsmith you are. You should think of becoming a lawyer or journalist. That response definitely tells me thats the direction of your life.

Well done.

The fact that the oline had no ability to read or pick up the zone blitzes on saturday is purely coaching.... it’s on Brian and polasek and even in KF as an o-line specialist. That line has the talent, just not the reps. Michigan’s defense was not THAT good.

My guess is our OL will be in the film room a LOT this week.

Off linemen in the pros can extend their arms to basically 'punch' a rusher in the chest or shoulder pads and I think they can in college also. I would think if the Off line maintained their spacing and tried to just ward off the rushers rather than closely engaging them they might be able to handle the blitz better, and with a running back blocking they could handle at least 6 rushers.

If any football Off line technicians and coaches are out there maybe you can tell us what the hawks and the coaches are working on to fix this issue.

And maybe our freshman center missed some blocking calls which would not be a blame on him since he is so new at it.

Michigan’s pass defense looks good on paper because they played Army who literally passed 4 times and Wisconsin who runs the ball every play and Iowa who looked like a high school offense. Michigan will get destroyed by Notre Dame and Ohio St., probably get beat by Penn St. and possibly Sparty. They will finish 8-4 or 7-5 just like Iowa.

I don’t blame Stanley for the Michigan debacle that loss is solely on the coaching staff. Brian’s play calling was pathetic and the offensive line was simply not prepared. Iowa would beat that team with the talent we have this year if we had a real OC.

Since it’s usually a rebuttal of Iowa’ s early season wins, i.e., “but we have not played anyone” how does PSU’s schedule measure up? Take a look and respond, please.

Do you want my Hawkeyes tickets to the Dollar General Bowl now or later?

The OSU blowout was partly a mirage because OSU is one of the few teams that hasnt blitzed us heavy and loaded the box over the past 5-10 years. OSU tried rushing 4 and then Bosa got thrown out. Maybe OSU was exposed some in the secondary because they lost a lot of starters from the year before.

Anyway, that same year the hawks put 50 on Nebby and had 2 other high scoring games but also had problems scoring points against teams with a decent defense that pressured our LOS.

Totally agree. fOSU thought they could win without blitzing a lot. Other teams who blitz a ton have beaten us, when they have no business beating us (Purdue comes to mind).
