Time for Shock Treatment. Leave Uthoff and Jok, the other 3

can come off the bench. I'm for trying anything to put life back into a team that's choking on apple sauce again down the stretch. Reminds me too much of watching the Iowa vs ISU football.

Not sure what works at this time, but if Woody can't finish under the hoop or hit freethrows and Gesell can't get high enough to guard a bigger guard while White throws up weak stuff hoping for a foul or throwing the ball away, then this season is NIT bound.

I like all these guys, but they appear to need a little kick in the pants. Maybe a little reminder their starting spot isn't guaranteed.

Unfortunately, I think the game to have done that was today's. I agree with your sentiments, though. Do we feel we can beat RU starting our 2nd teamers? I think I'd leave AW in and start TD and GO. Woody hasn't played well the last couple.

I just wish we would stop having 4 bench players in the game by the first tv timeout. Or just 4 bench players in at the same time period. It seems like every time we are ready to take control of the game, here come the bench players to lose all momentum.

There's no excuse for not giving Gabe more minutes yesterday. Honestly he's our only real option on the bench.

It seems like our best games were when we were basically rotating 7, and slipping Uhl a few minutes as the 8th guy. The 9 man rotation doesn't work. Fran has to see it, and change it. I know JO hit 2 3's yesterday, but he still missed other wide open shots. He really shouldn't play. He is not good on defense, and overall has not been a good shooter. If Adam is struggling early, just sit him down and play Gabe.

I seriously don't think Fran knows how to rotate guys in and out. It's one of his greatest weaknesses IMO.

I agree that Woody should be benched, when he's bad he's just not even worth a scholarship bad. When he's good he's just an ok player. His ceiling is about as high as he can jump and he doesn't play to that level but every 3rd game or so. I don't know if that's depending on the defense or players he's going against as much as just his inconsistancy. He is a microcosm of how this teams for sure.

So frustrating to watch a 7 footer that needs 3 steps of momentum to barely get high enough to dunk. And even then not able to convert. If your a 20 something year old 7 footer on scholarship is it really asking too much that he be athletic enough to dunk when he's under the hoop? To me his lack of being able to jump is just so disheartening and embarrassing. Since it's obviously a struggle for him why has he not been working at it. This is his 3rd year on a D1 college team. He should have been doing some Chris Doyle type training to improve his leaping ability. And from what I can tell he hasn't improved one bit other then his upper body some. I'd like to think if I'm him I'd work my *** off at that and being able to score within 15 ft. To think he's tapped out with his leaping ability when there's nothing wrong with his knees is just not justifiable to me.

It's funny how Fran is a genius when they win and a complete idiot when they lose.

The sub patterns won't change, in that the main 4 bench guys will continue to get minutes and Dickerson will continue to sit on the pine.

But subbing depends much on game flow, fouls, specific game situations, player frustrations, player fatigue, hot players, cold players, match ups, defensive schemes, etc. I have absolutely no problem with McCaffery's subbing and in-game coaching. None whatsoever. He also gets a lot of input from his assistant coaches, which is good.

I don't have a problem with Fran's coaching or his subbing patterns. To me our problem is fairly simple. When our shooting percentage is decent, we're pretty good. When it's not, we're absolutely terrible. Unless Fran isn't having them practice shooting enough, which I doubt is the case, I can't really fault him for that.

Now if you want to talk about recruiting, that's a whole different conversation. We simply have to get some players that you can count on to make the shots they should make. As it is now, when a shot goes up, I'm surprised when it goes in.

I'd really like to see what Dickerson can do.

Something different needs to happen.

If Dickerson could do anything I would think Fran would have tried him by now. I think Dickerson was a fall back option after they lost the kid who went to Kentucky and I believe Fran wanted Dickerson's buddy.

I agree but add Gabe and let the others have to prove themselves during the game. Add Dickerson's speed and maybe another guard that is not JO. Cannot depend on Woodbury or White and I never really did see the love the fans gave these 2, they try but Iowa needs to get to the tourney (not a play in game) to keep me interested.

Dickerson is not in Iowa's plans this year, that's obvious. And it's the right call. He has quicks, but doesn't use it to his advantage and he has no one-on-one moves from what I've seen. Instead he gets out of control and is too frail to drive and finish at the hoop. He may look faster than Gesell and Clemmons on the court, but I'm not sure he is. His feet are moving fast, but I'm not sure he is covering much ground in the process. He's too small to see over bigger guards and to get good shots, and he can't play defense. Big guards flick him off like he's just a little flea.

He will get more minutes next year, but he won't be starting unless he gets stronger and improves his game enough to compete with backcourt players in the B1G.

Funny how that works in this sport. :p

Uthoff & Jok seem to be about the only guys who can consistently hit shots, especially from 3. Gesell has been pretty solid with the mid-range jumper lately. Outside of that, it's pretty brutal.

So what about our next class? Fleming sounds like he can shoot.. What about the other 3 recruits? Sounds like they're athletic, but I hope it's not brick city USA.
