Tim Brando says Iowa needs two

Just heard on his show that he thinks we beat Northwestern and then MSU and we're in. So suck it Seth Davis.

You people are going to drive yourselves crazy with all this. Just relax and enjoy the games.

This x1000.

Im going to look forward to the selection show on Sunday even if the Hawks beat NU on Thursday and lose to MSU. Depending on how other bubble teams do, crazier things have happened.

True that. Just gotta root for Iowa to win as many game as possible this Thursday through Sunday and let the chips fall where they will.

It's just nice to see someone that doesn't look at Iowa like they're a 20 loss team that can only get in via automatic bid. I think Brando is closer to the mark than Seth Davis or USA Today.

+1. In that situation, I don't think Iowa gets in, but it will give me reason to tune in thinking that there's at least an outside shot of seeing Iowa's name come up on that screen. Haven't had any reason to even hope for that the past several years.

Could not agree more. If the Hawks win Thursday I am going to be a nervous wreck on Sunday during the selection show.

Actually I think I would be more nervous if Iowa beats MSU and goes out in the semis. In that case, I think it's more like 50/50, and won't know for sure whether Iowa is in or out. The suspense would be killer.

If Iowa loses to MSU, my attitude will be that I think Iowa is OUT. I will view an invite as an unexpected surprise. If that makes sense.

Tim and Fran and friends, so if everyone thinks Seth Davis has an anti Iowa bias, Brando has a pro Iowa bias.

Lol, good point. So maybe the truth is somewhere in between.. Maybe Iowa needs 3.

I've always thought 3 to be sure. 2 for a chance.

None of these guys are on the committee so it's not a huge deal what any of them think. I do like a voice out there countering Seth's negative comments...works for me.

A little lunardi for everyone:

Tyler (Des Moines)

Does Iowa get in with wins against NU and MSU? Or, must they make it to the B1G Championship game for consideration?

Joe Lunardi (2:10 PM)
The latter. One big win is probably not enough for Iowa.

Daniel (Davenport, IA)

I don't get your logic on Iowa. Illinois and Minnesota are sub .500 in conference and Iowa is ahead of them in conference. Iowa has been playing better than both teams of late (especially Minnesota.)
Joe Lunardi (2:27 PM)

I feel the pain of Iowa fans, but they need to get over it. NonConf was sub-300 and they have modest wins (all at home). They also played a weaker in-conference schedule than Illinois and Minnesota, and the Committee has that information. It really isn't close for them.

Ryan (cedar rapids)

Thats the point I'm trying to make, Joe. Dont you think the computers are to involved in the process? I realize Iowa played a terrible non-conference schedule.. but what i dont get is why that matters when its obvious Iowa is a better team than illinois and minnesota. You tell me whats better.. beating a cupcake by 30 or losing by 1 to a top 25 team? Thats a serious question.. does either scenario boost a resume?
Joe Lunardi (2:39 PM)
If Iowa is "obviously" better (and they are not), then why didn't they win enough games to make it a moot point?

My main problem with Lunardi is that he has MTSU ahead of Iowa, Iowa's "modest wins" at home are all much better than anything MTSU has. How are they still on the bubble with a single win against the top 99 RPI teams.

Well, in all fairness, Iowa went 2-1 against Minnesota and Illinois, and was another last second 3 away from that being 3-0.

That said, Iowa fans need to stop comparing Iowa to Illinois & Minnesota, and focus on the comparison of Iowa against other bubble teams.

This. If it's all about "who you've beaten", I don't get how MTSU is even remotely in this conversation. According to the latest RPI on ESPN. MTSU has ZERO wins against the Top 50. Just one against 51-100.

Their SOS is 134, and their RPI is 29. Iowa's SOS is 126, and an RPI of 76.

Yeah, that doesn't seem flawed at all, now does it?

I respect Lunardi's opinion over whoever the hell this Tim Brando guy is. It's not all that difficult to do what Lunardi does IMO, but he knows a lot more than most when it comes to what teams need to do to make it at this time in the season.

Just for the sake of analysis. Those 2 wins were at home and MN was ahead before one of their stars left. The loss was on the road. Computers and humans know that.

What I don't really understand is if the committee loves computers so much why do they essentially only take one into consideration. (RPI)
