Three Mags Out, Iowa Not in Top 25

crick is spelled creek but spoken as crick. at least that's how it was growing up. I think I've gotten away from that expression since I've been away for so long.

Just came by to say that I had a GT performer growing up.

It, too, had mags. Although it was a freestyle bike, I rode it on dirt tracks and trails all day.

Still. No predator.

You could have hung with my crew if you had a Predator, GT, Haro or Dyno.

The only concern I have with being underrated to open the season is that in the unlikely event that the stars align and we make a serious run for a playoff spot it hurts you in the polls. Of course, the 4 playoff teams are selected by a committee and not via the polls ala the former BCS, but I expect the polls will be somewhat influential in picking who get's a playoff spot. Especially with a weak schedule, you'd like to be somewhere in the AP Top 25 to start the season, which given the magazine rankings as rough indicators, probably won't happen. Not terrible news, but not preferable. Hopefully, we'll be in a position to argue that we should be included in the playoff. My guess is even if we lose just one yet go on to win the B1G championship game we'd probably be left out. SECCCCCC...

Nowhere to go but up is how I like it this time of year. As fun as it is to have "respect" and have expectations I savor it more as a fan when they can go in with a chip on their shoulders. Everyone from Ferentz to the 2nd string long snapper. I'd rather be the Roger Dangerfield of college football then be Texas, OU or any other school with high expectations year in and year out and usually come up short.

Ummm...if you are trolling Rodney Dangerfield, you are a little late to the party...being that he died in 2004. He would have loved it though...."I tell ya...."

I thought our FB pre-season rankings would at least match if not exceed the BB pre-season rankings.....guess not.

I totally get this. I go to bed every night worried about what I will tell my wife if Kate Upton calls me and decides she wants to bear my children. Will my wife be cool with it? Will she divorce me? How much of the marital assets will she get? What will my babies look like? Would Kate just want to throw me away after we have kids or would she be a good life partner?

I really haven't purchased any of those mags since I learned how to use Al Gores internet. I'll peak at them while wandering in the store but being the cheapskate I am if I can get similar info if not the same for free wth would I pay for it. I'm kinda surprised there are still those magazines out there.

Iowa isnt underrated. Who did they beat last year? They have to start knocking off the good teams again before Id put them in any poll.

My Predator had two sets of front pegs and one set of rear pegs. A guy with three sets of pegs on his bike never fell off, bud. I used to leave it sitting on the side of my garage and one night someone stole it. One of the three worst days of my life. It was my dad's fault because he had this old Pontiac parked in our garage and it took up like 2/3rds of the garage and then my mom parked her car in there, too, so there was no room for my bike. I really miss that thing. Good luck finding such a choice ride today.

I just thought of my favorite day riding it. There were some choice trails with nice jumps cut out in the woods adjacent to the greenbelt. But there was one path that ended with an 8 foot drop into a crick. Some new kid came one day and was trying to showboat (he didn't have a Predator so he was immediately not cool with my posse). He showboated a few times (but managed to get virtually no air). Then, he gets a full head of steam and jumps it right off the path that went into the crick. He was all yelling like he broke his arm or something so we all bounced and left him there. When school started a few weeks later he was a new kid and he had his arm in a cast. He never did fit in and his parents took him out of public school for Catholic school after one semester. What a delta bravo.

We had a similar wooded area with trails and wicked jumps. If you had a need for speed, that place was for you. Sometimes on the back trails you'd come across the scuzzy Jr high skids smoking stolen Pall malls. As long as you'd leave them be, you'd be alright.

Ironically, it later became a spot where dirty meth heads would cook up a batch. So if you have a need for speed, it's still the place for ya.

If it makes us feel any better, I was reading a Big Ten preview on NFL.com, and 2 of the 3 analysts picked Iowa to win the West. I'll see if I can find a link.
