Thoughts on where program is heading?

Are you starting to believe in this team? How bout the next few years. I have us in the NCAA tourney this year.

continuing to trend up - People that panic about next season need to think about the fact that next years class will have an entire year in the system under their belts before they are called upon to make meaningful contributions. We also have a nice class coming in

I think the team will be streaky because they rely so much on the outside shot. Rebounding will be our #1 weakness.

Mike G is the key.

Easily a NCAA team again this year. Selection Sunday we will be looking at seeding and match ups, not worrying about making it.

Next year is gonna be tough. I'm really worried about our PG options being Williams and Bohannon.

We look like a tourney team now. Next year looks rough but i thought that last year and this year too so who knows.

Have you seen Bohannon? I've talked to two guys that know basketball..1 guy is pumped we got him the other thinks we should definitely have passed on him.

As of now we are the 4th ranked team in the Big 10. I really don't see anyone but Indiana passing us. 5th will get us in for sure. I feel like we might not get in next year but after that we will be good for as long as Fran is here.

We'll see on this year. Definitely a shot to make the NCAA tournament.

Next year - I think it's going to be a bit rough. We lose a lot: Uthoff, Gesell, Clemmons, Woodbury. There's going to be a lot of holes to fill. Even with this year's newcomers having a year under its belt, the team will still be pretty young overall.

But recruiting has been good as of late, so I think we'll be fine in the long run. I just expect a rebuilding type year next season.

I think this team has a ton of potential.

It lacks what so many teams in the past have.

Even with Marble our ability to score on the perimeter has been a serious issue for a few years.

We scored points in the past by running and offensive rebounds.

This year at least so far we have a legit offense that can score in the half court.

If these guys can get confidence against good teams they could really go places.

If Uthoff improves as the year goes on like White, Marble, May, and Gatens did, we will be really good by the end of the year.

The good thing about them is they are such different players. Maybe one will be a good matchup one game and the other will be another game. If we need length and penetration we can use Williams. If we need good shooting we can use Bohannon.

Just to put this into a bit of perspective. If Iowa makes the NCAA tournament this year (on a trajectory to do so), it will mean 3 straight years of making the tournament. The last time that happened was the 1990-91 through the 1992-93 seasons under Mr. Davis. Davis had another separate 3-year NCAA run in his first 3 years, 1986-87 through 1988-89. But that is 20+ years since Iowa last made the NCAA tournament for 3 straight years.

I don't know that Iowa will again have a decade like the 1980s, where Iowa made the NCAA tournament 10 out of 11 seasons (1978-79 through 1988-89). Possible, but it's much tougher to make the tournament now with the improvement in basketball beyond the Power 5 conferences and increasing number of Division I teams.

There might, might be a lull of a year or two after this year. All depends upon how much of an impact guys like Tyler Cook can make, and how ready someone like Isaiah Moss is to contribute next year. Further down the road, Fran has already lined up Top 100-level talent in consecutive classes with his two sons and Wieskamp from Muscatine. If he is able to land 1-2 Top 100 types per year, that can be a winning formula at Iowa.

Parity is stronger but the field had expanded too. It seems like every year since the tourney went to 68 the bubble has been horrible. So idk if it's more difficult to make it nowadays or not but if we do make it 3 straight years that's just phenomenal. There were times under lick that i wondered if we'd ever be back.

I think it depends on how you project Bohannon. Is he going to be a true PG? Is he going to be a shooter off the bench? To me, Bohannon looks to be an elite shooter. So, if he can evolve into a comparable ball handler as MG and run the team like MG, then Bohannon is an upgrade because he is a shooter. So, if's and more if's. But he's definitely a shooter.

The goal for this year is to compete for a B1G title and try and get to the second weekend in the NCAA tournament.

The goal every year for this program is to make the tournament. We might miss the tournament 1-3 times in the next 10 years or so but it's a watered down tournament. There are no excuses to be missing the tournament more than that.

There is a foundation to meet the program's standards going forward. Shooting, size, athleticism, etc.

Would people rather bring in a fifth year transfer pg for next season if it meant we made the tournament as an 11 seed and lost in the first round or land in the NIT but give all those minutes to our young guys to develop?

We're in the 3rd year of a long run of NCAA appearances IMO. I'm not worried about this year, next year the following year... We have a very good coach. We have excellent assistant coaches. And we have talented players. I also like that we don't have to worry about our resume with the upgraded non conference schedule.

I have not seen him play, nor am I some accomplished BB scout. I am speaking more of the fact that one of our PG is going to have ZERO experience, and the other almost zero experience.

Yeah, missing on Ulis and Moore, consecutively, will be an issue for a season. But I like what I've seen from Williams. I think he will be more than good at the PG.
