Thoughts on ISU from Barry Switzer

When asked what he would miss most about coaching college football when Switzer accepted a coaching position for Dallas, he wittingly replied, "playing against Iowa State." Fast forward to "legendary" KF and his dismal 6-7 career record against the Big 12 cellar dwellers. This makes you think, does any other highly regarded coach have a losing record against a team this bad having played them more than 10 times?

You're an idiot, that is a quote from 17 freakin years ago when ISU was one of the worst if not the worst D1 teams in America, while they aren't great now they are no where near as bad as they were in the 80's and early 90's when Oklahoma and Switzer were pounding them.

In the Ferentz era in seasons when Iowa loses to ISU

Iowa's record is 35-37. Iowa State's is 36-36.

So when he loses to them, we're basically the same team. Which I suppose gives some credence to the "its their Super Bowl" argument...even if I don't buy it.

In seasons when Iowa beats Iowa State? Iowa's record is 54-23 while ISU is 27-46.

It was a smart move locating this thread in the football forum because clearly it's a huge game for Iowa and KF's record vs. ISU is abysmal. You are not at all obsessed with ISU so carry on.

No reason to clutter up the football forum with threads about Pitt.

During the Switzer years ISU was 79-95 (0.454)

During the KF years ISU is 64-82 (0.438)

You're the absolute idiot

It actually gives NO credence to the "Super Bowl", "only game we care about" argument. If it's the only game we care about then shouldn't we have less W's and more L's?

No you're still the idiot, comparing what Oklahoma did to ISU and what Iowa does is being idiotic.

KF is 90-60 at Iowa, Switzer went 157-29-4, so Switzer's teams beat up everyone and not just ISU.

There was a bigger talent game between an ISU team of the 80's versus Oklahoma then there is of an ISU team now compared to Iowa. So regardless of records, the talent gaps are no where the same when trying to compare what KF and Switzer did against ISU.

KF vs...

Northwestern: 4-6 (3 straight losses, Northwestern had a 0.488 total win percentage)
Iowa State: 6-7
Indiana: 6-4 (A dropped TD to keep above 0.500)

Hardly the mark of a good coach

If Ferentz can't win like a top coach such as Switzer, he shouldn't be paid like one. If Kirk Ferentz can't win against an ISU team that's had a horrible 0.438 win percentage over his career, he isn't a top coach in the country. The fact remains, KF has a combined losing record against ISU, NU and Indiana. That is absolutely pathetic. To think otherwise would be braindead. You just don't see other premier coaches losing this frequently to lesser teams. Two top-25 years in the last 7 is the very definition of mediocrity.
