those who think our D cant reload.

Cm, are you a coach by chance? If not I can tell you are a very intune fan.

No but by the amount of football I watch my wife thinks I must be……:D. I still have 8 plus games on my DVR from last football season.
I really appreciate the kind words though. The funny thing about that is I miss plenty myself. That’s why I try to stay even minded about my anxty and frustration over the team losing some games. I’m a fan just like everyone and truth be told I’m very high strung, passionate and I expect a lot out of myself. However I’m not the coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes. I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt as opposed to throwing up angry thoughts on a message board. They clearly know what they are doing and I sincerely doubt I want them to win more than they do. I just try to stay open minded and “see†what is really out there. Not just a loss, but what really went on and why.

There are actually several guys on the message boards I frequent whose eyes I trust more than mine and one of them is Homer Hawkeye. He is a pretty sharp cat when it comes to diagnosing what is going on and more importantly to me he is fair minded and not reactionary. That’s the key to life in my opinion. Being patient, opening your eyes and actually seeing things as they are. We all have a tendency to trick ourselves at times so we have to try extra hard to be honest about our thoughts and what we really saw.

Sorry for the philosophy diatribe….I got carried away….:D

Ah, I just figured you might be a high school coach or something. I to have many games from last season recorded, thats kinda my thing, I like to go back and break things down, person by person (position by position), I had to ding Iowa for the Hyde move, it might have been the right thing to do, but is still an unknown. It gives me a pretty good idea on what I am looking at for the next season. I am not talented enought to do it with any more sports than football and I tend to like to stay away from NFL. So this is the time of year, with schedules out, I do just that, your assesment of Iowa is about where mine is so I thought you might be doing the same thing. I kinda got thrown for a loop with the divisions but am making progress. Anyway I think you have a good idea at what you are looking at when it comes to Iowa this year. I try and stick with the big ten, but will most likely start taking a more serious look at the b12 now. That conf should be much easier to put pencil to.
But make no mistake, the Hawks are my team, I just look thru different glasses than some people do.

Honestly my thoughts on Iowa are as much intangible as hard facts. In my job I’m very inclined to “figure” things, people, inventory, etc… out by experience and by looking at what is behind people’s actions and words. On that note they would NOT move Hyde if they didn’t feel the upside for him AND our D was thru the Roof. They also wouldn’t do it if they felt Castillo wasn’t good enuff and I personally think their actions also suggest they are very high on Lowery. As my collaborating evidence I’ll point out…Prater played as a true Frosh and started as a Soph, Hyde played as a true Frosh and started as a soph. This staff knows D-Backs (all defensive positions really) and if they thought Lowery should play as a true Frosh in the backfield we had last year it’s because they think he is a stud in waiting.

That’s not to short change the play making ability it frees Hyde up to do as a “playmaker” which he obviously is. It also doesn’t count the potential versatility of a healthy and motivated Bernstein. We have options back there and they are good ones and several of them at that. Miller too is a potential stud.

I’m also giddy about the experience we got our Lbers last year and I don’t think people know how good Tyler Nielsen and James Morris can be…….and they aren’t alone. Dibona had some great moments and Kirksey and Hicthens played well in coverage late. In fact if you remember a tackle for loss that Morris made against MSU it was set up by Dibona coming in hard on the edge and crushing the full back so Morris could scrape out and make the tackle on their Rber. He also made a great ankle tackle in space vs “someone” that Morris had over ran. If he misses, it would have gone 10 or 20 more yards. But Nielsen in particular I don’t think the fans get…had he stayed healthy it would have completely changed our D last year. He was having a very good year. He is a 6-4, 248 Lb, AJ Edds clone that I’ve seen suggested runs a 4.5 something forty. I personally saw him run Noel Devine down from behind in the Army All American game as a high-schooler….

As far as my love of football goes I watch EVERYTHING….The Texas high school state championships, Florida’s, Illinois, Missouri’s, Ohio’s Michigan’s…I’ve watched Wisconsin’s, Oklahoma’s, Washington’s Oregon’s, all manners of relevant high school games throughout the season.

I stay up late watching WAC games, MWC games, Sun Belt games……I’ve had as many as 10 college fantasy football teams and 10 plus pickem’s in a single season….In short I’m a freak about college football and I watch a lot of it. As a rule, I can tell you where the majority of Nflers played in college. I follow the Qb's, Wr’s and Rbers in all the mid-majors, (fantasy football is good for that) and I just have a memory and passion for college football. When you are that passionate about things you have a tendency to look very deep at it.

Now as I grow older and God places more relevance on things that should truly be important, I do cut back on my hobbies and I try not to be so over the top. But that guidance is also what drives me to be fair and real about what I am seeing………bringing this back full circle in nice little box…..

If YOU'RE going to call somebody a "buffoon", you may want to use the right spelling of you're. I don't know how so many people get that wrong.

Honestly I shouldn't call anyone a buffoon, but does it really matter how I spell it!? Do you really think that many people notice....I get that we have all become quite lazy with our spelling and yes I’m one of the worst. I also get the “Irony” of it all…but really tell me I shouldn’t do it, I’d respect that and you’d be right, but seriously….

Does it really matter……..heck follow me around I get caught speeding with our/are, there/their/they’re, etc all the time. I’m a walking grammar don’t do!!!

Yep, sounds like, we are about the same when it comes to ball. I also see a very large upside in our D this year. I am just amazed at how some come up with their "feelings" on a team. Example. Oh St is projected as the best shot the big 10 has at a NC. I dont know if any team in the 10 will make it to the NC, but if any do, I am betting it wont be them. In fact I am betting they dont make it to the ccg. But that's the fun part of it and where people tend to agree or not.
Oh and it doesnt take a spelling bee winner to pay attention and figure out whats what when it comes to ball. I have always hated the spelling police, do you think it's because they have no idea whats going on with football, so they pick stuff like that apart? Or is it just some sort of anal thing? Yes I get, I cant spell and my grammer is horrible, but what is wrong with a person who has to point out someone else's short comings? I mean if ya want to talk football with someone who went to school to write, go send you comments into Adam. What a homer (Adam that is).
Sorry for the rant.
I also think we could someday be talking about a kid named Scott Covert. I think they need to find his groove, but when they do I suspect we will be hearing his name before to long.

I’ve always enjoyed poorly prepared, illogical fans like you…..it is oh so easy to run you in the ditch because you don’t bother knowing the facts.

Iowa’s pass efficiency Defense (even last year) has been one of the 20 to 30 best for several years running (top 10 a couple years)besides the fact t that if you can stop the run and “forceâ€￾ teams to be one dimensional you win way more often than you lose. Every NFL-D is still predicated o stopping g the run first and foremost.

Anything else…..

Chad,

Wrong, my friend. It's the trolls like that who are almost IMPOSSIBLE to run into the ditch. You can never win an argument with an idiot who was ignoring the facts from Jump Street.

Agreed. I'll never understand why people fall for it. I'll read OK4P's posts, sometimes they're good for a little chuckle. But they certainly aren't worth getting worked up about.

I guess maybe I'm a little different than you guys in that…even arguing with someone who doesn’t want to be opened minded challenges me to stretch the envelope and look at things even deeper. It altimately up helping me to grow and I ended up enjoying the dialogue with others and that’s how I tend to look at life. Everything is a growth opportunity in some fashion.
