True, it could go both ways. If they win their last two that gives us a win over a RPI top 50. They lose that opens a spot for us.

One could pull for ISU to lose both games, to open up another spot.

This, we are to the point where we will be on the board vs. ISU on the bubble. We now want them to lose.

The most critiacal teams are as follows
Boise St
ISU
Villanova
Kentucky
Ole Miss
Tennessee
Virginia
Maryland
St. Mary's
Temple
La Salle
Maryland
Baylor
Arizona State

Iowa winning is the (obvious) top priority. I will also be rooting for Wisconsin to beat Michigan State. This positions us to likely play Wisconsin in the 2nd round of the BTT...making the road to 4 wins much easier IMO.

I will also be pulling for 2 ISU losses...knock them completely off the bubble. I want us to move onto the bubble and other teams to fall off the bubble for good.

Cincinnati lost, here is a look at their resume:
20-10
Vs RPI top 50: 4-7
Vs RPI 51-100: 4-2
No 100+ Losses
They are 2-6 vs the top 6 teams in the Big East

Pretty good, but the loss tonight drops them back on the bubble IMO. They beat ISU and Villanova head to head. They have USF next, win and they are probably IN. Lose and they will have to win their first round game in the Big East Tournament IMO.

CURRENTLY IN

Personally, I think the ONLY way we are in is beat Illinois and Nebraska AND get to championship game of BTT. Even then, getting blown out in the CG could still cost us.

lol at the idea of Iowa not making it in that scenario. That would put Iowa at 23-12, without question Iowa would be in, not only that, but Iowa would pick up a few quality win on their path to the tournament championship.

The most important games (outside of Iowa's schedule) are the ones that can improve Iowa's RPI.

Western Kentucky (RPI 178) has a chance to get into the top 150 of the RPI, they play in their conference tournament as a 6 seed starting Friday. Ideally we want them to make a long run to the championship game and then lose to Middle Tennessee State (MTSU would create another bubble team if they lose).

Friday
Western Kentucky over LA Monroe (Sun Belt Conference Tournament)

Saturday
Western Kentucky over South Alabama (Sun Belt Conference Tournament)

Sunday
Western Kentucky over (potentially) Arkansas State

Monday
Middle Tennessee State over Western Kentucky

Gardner Webb (RPI 183) is another team that could climb inside the top 150. They play Thursday in the Big South Conference Tournament as a #2 divisional seed. This conference is a 1 bid conference regardless so our rooting interest is for Gardner Webb to win this tournament. They have been playing well lately so this is possible.

Thursday
Gardner Webb over Campbell/Presb College (hopefully Campbell)

Saturday
Gardner Webb over High Point (potentially)

Sunday
Gardner Webb over Charleston Southern (potentially)

UNI (RPI 75) also plays in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Not much relevance here as they are a solid top 100 RPI team and I doubt they can get into the top 50. We do not want them to win the conference tournament as that would take another at large spot (Wichita State and Creighton are pretty much in).

South Dakota (RPI 240) could get into the top 200 by winning the Summit Conference Tournament. This is highly unlikely but the tournament is being played in Sioux Falls, SD.

I will be pulling for all of this to happen. At the end of the day our RPI and berth will take care of themselves if we win the 4 to 5 we have to win...4 gets us a chance and 5 gets a bid IMO. If we go 9-9 with the win over Illinois and 3-1 with wins over 2 more tournament bound teams there are no worries.

Look at it again, I added South Dakota to the mix. Unlikely scenario but you never know. They open the tournament against Western Illinois, a team they almost beat twice.

Also, you really need to root for Iowa State. Iowa State losing hurts Iowa more than bursting their tournament bubble. Iowa needs to show wins against the RPI top 50 on their resume, Iowa State is a team we want winning and in the tournament.

No, now ISU is playing against us for a bubble spot. We want them to lose. We can replace that win with a win over Illinois and the QTRFNL game in the BTT. If ISU beats Okie State, then we will want them to beat WVU because they will probably be in with that win over Okie State.

I have to agree that ISU is 1 of the teams competing with us for a spot. I want them out of the equation. We just have to take care of our business the next 4 games (minimum).
