There are a lot of wrestlers from Ia in the hawkeye lineup. It would be interesting to see how they would do at nationals with an "all Iowa HS" lineup. Obvious big losses...but I would think they could be in the top 5.

wish we could say iowa wrestling is at the top in current high school rankings but don't think we have a whole lot compared to other states

kind of sad where its fallen

Iowa High School wrestling will continue to decline in the national spotlight until the IAHSAA starts allowing Iowa High Schools the opportunity to travel outside of the 4 hr limit. They either need to do that or we need to have something like the Ironman or Beast of the East within our state boarders, which they won't allow either because it would be a two day event. An event with the top wrestling programs like Waverly, ICW, Davenport Assumption, Don Bosco, Lewis Central, Ballard, Apple Valley and top teams in Nebraska, Illinois and Missouri invited would be great. It's funny they won't allow two day events during the season, but have no problem extending the State Tournament out over 4 days.

Is it a result of a lack of interest among high school kids and low participation? The good athletes playing other sports? It has been a while since I have lived in Iowa.
