This Tells The Story

Wow, this is really dumb. The fact is if Nate was more cautious, he calls Time out there. Instead the coaching staff gives Nate the freedom to audible plays and that is what he did. Unfortunately he just did it too late and ultimatey didn’t have enough time to get the audible called.

Any intelligent person learns from their mistakes and they don’t continue to make them. The myth that Stanzi wasn’t as good his Sr year is just that, a myth. He stopped making the stupid throws that ended up as pick 6’s his Sr year and started making better plays. Only an idiot would argue 17 TD’s to 15 INT’s and 56% comp. is somehow better than 25 TD’s to 6 INT’s and 64% comp.
I don't think you are supposed to use words like "dumb" or "idiot" on this board when referencing other posters.

I don't disagree with you for the record I'll preface what I'm about to say with that. But CJ wasn't all that great his SR year. Banged up or not he just wasn't as good and being drafted that high had nothing to do with his play his senior year and everything to do with how he did his JR yr and the potential they saw with how he could run a pro style O

he also had the worse corp of WR's ever to see a field for a B1G team ever.

Stanly still has 4 - potentially 5 or 6 games left of the season. Let's see how it plays out, his #'s (besides picks) might look like big progression when said and done.

I get throttled by some posters here when I bring up the subject of Stanley being an all or nothing QB. The response is always some kind of garbage about how even Tom Brady has bad days (Jesus Christ, really.....).

Dochterman's tweet below perfectly sums up what I've been saying all year. People can continue to sniff Stanley's jock all they want, but there's no denying that his inconsistency is killing the Hawkeyes' chances at taking Wisconsin's spot as the dominant team in the west. They've given us the perfect opportunity to do it, too. Wisconsin losing to NW basically rolled over on their back, showed their necks, and handed the Hawks a knife. They said, "Here you go, Iowa. It's yours if you want it." Then Stanley proceeds to trip over his own shoelaces, fall down the stairs and stick the knife in his own leg like Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights.

Not only is the inconsistency horrible at face value, it's totally random. Someone tell me how any coaching staff can be confident in a game plan without knowing whether Chuck Long or Scott Mullen is going to show up. That's how far apart his two alter egos are. How are WR/TEs supposed to play full speed if it's always lingering in the backs of their minds that they'll probably have to turn around mid stride to catch a ball thrown a yard behind them, or dive down for a pass in the dirt? How are the Hawks supposed to build a lead when they have to potentially waste the first quarter figuring out whether Nate is Jekyl or Hyde that particular day?

Hate me or not, these numbers don't lie and there's no way to know whether Mansell is more consistent or not until you give it a shot. The "ride or die, by god I'm going down with this ship" folks are the ones who hopefully won't bitch if we end up in the RedBox Bowl. Could Stanley finish out the year strong? Absolutely; I hope he does. The homers on the board will be the first ones to let me know. But they'll also be the first one's to piss and moan about the rest of us being negative if he doesn't. It couldn't be that we were right instead of just being negative, could it?

Nate didn't cause the loss to Wisconsin.

How did Chuck Long do at Ohio State back in 1985?

You never answered me the last time...

You walk home, right?

Because it’s a long drive home from Dave’s in Humboldt to your house in Manson when you admit you’re shitfaced by 9AM. I’d hate to see someone get hurt. Including yourself.

I’m not so sure I believe you. And I do care. Call a ride; that’s 35 miles you don’t need to be on the road, amigo.

The difference between Beathard and Stanley (I think) is the ability to handle stress and not get flustered. Stanley has more physical ability and sounds like he’s a good student of the game, but like Mike Tyson famously said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”

CJ, Tate, and Stanzi all seemed to keep their cool when stuff went downhill in a road game in front of 100,000 people, where Nate gets the oh shit look on his face and tries to force dumb passes, let’s footwork go out the window, etc.

I’m not ever going to say he isn’t a good qb, he’s just missing that intangible stuff those guys had in order to be really good. Nate seems to me to be one of those guys that’d be a ridiculously good coach moreso than a player.

And you could be right, but it's easy to look back and say that about those guys now, cause their careers are over. Those guys all lost big games too...they all got rattled and lost to top 25 teams. Every single one of them.... and who's to say this year or next, Stanley doesn't have his big game moment that might top any 3 those dudes you mention? He already has better stats for sure. His body of work is incomplete and to try and paint him with definite labels before he's had the same opportunities the others have seems unfair.

It's funny to me that we roast Nate and say that he pisses down his leg in big games and say "He's no Tate, Stanzi or CJ" when I clearly remember

Tate's game against Arizona State where he had like 50 yards passing and an INT and got crushed. I remember him losing at Michigan and having a horrible multiple pick game. I remember when he played terrible at Ohio State...i remember his senior year, he lost every big game he played in. But now, in hindsight, he's some sort of mythical creature that slayed dragons

You can do the same with Stanzi and CJ - they had LOADS of bad games and guess what? They typically happened against the best teams. Weird how football works huh?

I don't believe that he's drunk typing, because I've done that a lot and know others that do too. It lppks npthing like thst. It looks like he's received a morse code message and attempted to translate it. Stop.

It's not like CJ threw a pick 6 against NDSU and lost to the only FCS team in Iowa history, but that dudes clutch and doesn't pee down his leg like Stanley does.

Nate Stanley is what he is. He is a big strong armed QB who teammates like and he plays well against sub par defenses for the most part. However, he is not an accurate passer by any means and when he plays a better defense he seems to tense up and lose his head. Paralysis by analysis it seems. However, he probably gives the team the best chance to win at this point. It is unfortunate they don't have a all conference type RB that they could rely on more in the ground game.

Beathard and Tate were the same way. I think a lot of it comes down to being able to handle a lot of stress. Those three guys were ice cold even when the shit hit the fan, and Nate looks like a deer in the headlights a lot of times and is never totally comfortable. Even when he's playing well. That's one of the more frustrating parts about the kid because I think he has more physical talent overall than they did.

Defenses smell blood in the water when a guy gets in over his head and that causes them to make him make mistakes. The opposite is true as well and I hope Nate turns the tables. I hate the Packers, but when they're down by a score with 1:30 left you know damn well Rodgers is going to walk down the field on you and you're going to lose the game. He never gets rattled and you can see it on his face that he knows he has you beat before the drive starts. That gets in defenders' minds and they screw up.

I've never tried weed, but for those of you who have, would a gigantic bong rip right before each drive hurt or help?

I think you are forgetting all of Beathard's bad games.

Every QB that's ever lived plays better against weaker competition and struggles against tougher teams. This is like saying the sky is blue.
