This team needs a low post scorer.

Marble has scored 51 points thru 3 games for 17 ppg
White has scored 46 points thru 3 games for 15.3 ppg
the others will get it done, Patience will be the key. Woodbury was never a big scorer in HS
as long as they win, why care who does the scoring.

Because good teams have more than 2 guys who score and we want to see that happen against the sisters of the poor we have been playing so we don't have to rely on lighting in a bottle against B1G teams.

Fear not, my friend.

If Fran is, in fact, "the man"--as you appear to believe--you have nothing to fear, as he will certainly resolve this issue before it results in adverse consequences.

..........Because we have been playing weak teams and once we start playing BCS quality schools we likely are not going to be able to keep the score as low against those teams. Just White and Marble scoring isn't going to cut it. Who is going to step up if a BCS quality team puts their best two lock down defenders on White and Marble?

I agree with your general idea here; it would be nice to see the team scoring at will in these games. I think we'll see marked improvement by January, though. Hell, last year's team looked like steaming poo until the second half against Iowa State, after which we only had two or three non-con games. Once the guys get comfortable, things will look a lot better.

People who are freaking out after 3 games need to relax. You have to understand that this is a long season, and we are fans of a very young team. They will keep improving and Fran will find the right chemistry on the floor. A few years ago, there were hardly any 'gimmees,' you never knew who Iowa might lose to. Now the Hawks are beating the bad teams they should. It's not pretty yet, but it will get better. There will be growing pains, but if everyone can stay together for a couple of years, there is enough talent on the roster for this team to be special.

I don't see anyone freaking out. And the fact that we are better than we were the past few years is of no comfort to me.

We're back.

I don't know. I'm nervous, I'm really really nervous. I don't know if we're back? Are we as back as we were last year or even more back than that? How far back do we have to go to get all the way back? What are we getting back to? 2004? oh god, oh gawd, oh jaws...someone please tell me we're back...just tell me we're back!

Freaking out might be a little too strong, but there has been a lot of whining about not beating bad teams by enough points. Don't people know that we have the next Dream Team in Iowa City?

oh sorry Ghost, didn't see your post there.

I think you're underestimating how bad the teams we've been playing are. While I expect the team to certainly improve as they go along, I assumed they were starting a little further than they demonstrated. And keep in mind, I was more conservative in my expectations than most. Saying nothing of teh BoneG season, just watching the way ISU is playing right now compared to us is, if nothing, cause for concern.

I guess I expected Iowa to be an NIT team at the beginning of this year, and I've seen nothing that makes me think otherwise so far. I know a lot of people hoped they would make the Big Dance, but, in my opinion, when you lose your leader and depend on a bunch of Freshman and Sophomores, you are going to struggle at times, especially early in the season, and again somewhere in the middle to end of the Big 10 season when they hit the wall.
As far as ISU is concerned, they did beat the snot out of one very bad team, and I wish we would have done the same to Howard (we definately should have.) But they struggled some in the first game. It was close at half, and they pulled away as the game progressed. With that said, they do seem to be a little further along then us right now, and I don't like that.
I guess I'm looking at the bigger picture, I really think this team can do some damage over the next couple of years, but we will have suffer through some growing pains this year. Unlike how I feel about football right now, I have hope for a bright future for the basketball program.

ISU has beat the snot out of two very bad teams, but they have been shooting the ball like mad, as opposed to us. The last two games we went on inexplicable scoring droughts, which is what bothers me. I think St. Francis is spending too much time tinkering with the lineup when, in my opinion, he should let the lead units establish an on court rhythm with each other.

I also think people are 'freaking out' because football has been so bad this year. There is a lot of pressure on this basketball team this year to make up for the dismal football season.

To be honest, I did have a couple of moments last night when I asked why Iowa teams have so much trouble scoring.....both basketball and football. Hopefully our shooters can find their rhthym soon.

The scoring droughts are a concern, especially against the dog**** competition they have played thus far.

Another cause for concern is that Iowa is (supposedly) a team built to run and score in transition. Howard missed a whopping 38 shots last night, but outside of White, we seemed content to shoot, and miss, threes than to attack the iron.

ISU did not "beat the snot" out of Southern, they were down late in the first half of that game. And now is the time to tinker with lineup options, we haven't been anywhere close to losing any of our games, once the competition improves I'm sure we'll see Fran stick with line ups for longer periods of time.

Fran has done a great job of upgrading the talent level. Fans have to be patient and allow that talent to develop. Eventually Woody and Olesani will become effective low post scorers but probably not this year. Our zone offense would look better if we had Jared Sullinger in the lineup but we don't so be patient and thank the Lord that we are finally improving the talent level around here.

Josh O just needs to break out and have a a couple of solid games to get his confidence going. Hopefully it will happen before the B10 season starts but no guarantees. Josh was a great 3 pt shooter in high school and so far in practice but unless he can relax and duplicate that shooting in the game, he may not be able to contribute in the B10. I hope he gets it going!
