This team got the bowl it deserved

From my perspective at least. 7-5 record. 4-5 conference record. Seems about right, really. The Pinstripe Bowl ain’t my cup of tea, but if I’m being completely objective, it’s about right. I don’t think anyone really “screwed” the 2017 Iowa Hawkeyes ... except for the 2017 Iowa Hawkeyes.
I do think this is more winnable than, for example, playing Arizona with a qb who can run for 200 yards a game. In the long run it might be just what the future of Iowa football needs. Who knows? I’m not going to NYC for probably anything ever again. Felt like a foreigner in my own country, but more power to whoever goes. Do it up.

this is the bowl Iowa deserves, but not the one it needs.

Why is that?

First time I’d ever been there. I was surprised by how different NYC was compared to other large metro areas in the US I’d been to. LA, Chicago, Seattle, San Diego, Dallas, and others. Just nowhere near as crowded. LA is crowded with cars, but still it’s spread out. New York is really compact. Denver (metro area) feels like it covers more square area than NYC. Felt more like Tokyo. There are over 800 languages and dialects spoken in NYC. I honestly didn’t know there was 800 languages/dialects in the world. People on top of people.

NYC might be a nice destination for the players, given the eclectic culture, sites, etc. etc....and when they don't have to spend thousands of dollars of their own money...well, it might be a pretty good location for many. They are the ones who put the work in.

It also might be a more "choice" spot for the many who spend company $$$ on "meetings" and other things for "business purposes" than a Memphis, Nashville, etc. This is the bowl attendance game that keeps the motor running. Lots of ways to "entertain" in the city that never sleeps.

For common Mary and Joe from Pleasantville, Iowa...not so much, perhaps.

In the end, it is a kick in the head that a team that beats Ohio State by 30 points is headed to the FakeStripe Bowl.

For me...if I am spending money to attend a bowl...I want to be warm.

I don't think there is anyone on here that feels like we deserved a better bowl game. Many of us preferred a different bowl because of the destination. Some wanted the Holiday Bowl to go somewhere warm while others, like myself, wanted the Music City Bowl because it was within driving distance. Beyond that having lost to Purdue and Northwestern we are exactly in the bowl that we deserved.

My feeling is this is the bowl that the offensive coaches deserve. I think the coaches wasted Wadley on a lot of plays like much of the MSU and jNW games running him into 8 men in the box. Wadley could have been in the backfield with Butler or Young then gone in motion or shifted very wide to see if the defense would probably shift 2 players to him. They could have run the ball with 6 in the box or thrown the ball depending on how the defense reacted.

Remember the last second safety valve pass to Wadley in the OSU game when it was still 24-17. Wadley makes a guy miss and takes it from about the 40 to the 2 yard line. You have to ask the question how would a Steve Sarkisian or a top NFL OC use Wadley.

I will be excited to watch the Hawks play in this bowl but have no plan to go there. The total scoring variation in the last 4 games this year tells it all about the offensive game planning.

Does KF know about Joe from Pleasantville?

The Rams most dangerous weapon is RB Todd Gurley...teams focus on him, stack against him, not overly concerned about the WRs the Rams "acquired" from Buffalo.

Yesterday Gurley ran for about 80 yards...on 20 or so carries... But, he is now most dangerous with a new, innovative, young coach who has developed screen plays, motion plays for Gurley...and yesterday he gained more yards catching than running into a pile of defenders who "know" he is coming. The screen play is now the ace in the hole...using the run into the pack...to set up big plays with a dynamic RB with space to run, and an ability to outrun defensive backs (like Wadley can do)

We have had a dynamic RB in Wadley but for some reason our new OC, although young, isn't creative and seems lost in his position and the HC is about as inflexible as a piece of granite. Thus...our way of using Wadley has been to run him, repeatedly, into a defense who wants to stop him first, withe little concern about wide receivers who are the worst in the conference.

This is frustrating to watch...repeatedly...and I just don't understand why this coaching is tolerated. I guess that's what happens when nepotism is the foundation of a program. There is one think, one way, and no turning back...you press on into the brick wall come what may...and you get the RoadStripe Bowl.

Please also note...AD is part of the enabling network that keeps nepotism in place...

If you look at the reactions of other teams that have gone to the Pinstripe Bowl, the kids on social media all seem to love a trip to NYC. Many kids from Iowa have probably never been, they get a couple days of guided tours and trips to places like the Empire State building and the Statue of Liberty.

For the young players and Iowa high school kids its a good trip even if the game stinks for the traveling fans. But Iowa bans all of its players from social media during the season so we won't even see it.

But we will be reminded that it is almost Akrum Wadley's home town.
Mr.Akrum has brothers! Must ask Mr.Akrum's MOM about their situation.Mr.Akrum waay cool.More of those kids would be super.250 total yds.for MR.AKRUM would boost draft situation no?He isHAWK TOUGH.

All these bowl trips should be great for the players except maybe the Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, what do you see in Boise, yeah great landscapes but what for tours. Yes big for the players and some fans

If we lose this one and Barta attends the game then he and the coach can just stay in New York and spend the next twenty years in Pinstripes. ;)

BC has been offensively challenged for a number of years but they are pretty decent run team that usually has great defense. head coach is a renowned defensive guy

They remind you of Iowa so this should be a hard hitting bash em up game.

They have some big wins against Louisville and Fl St (who is not that good).
