This team got the bowl it deserved

NYC might be a nice destination for the players, given the eclectic culture, sites, etc. etc....and when they don't have to spend thousands of dollars of their own money...well, it might be a pretty good location for many. They are the ones who put the work in.

It also might be a more "choice" spot for the many who spend company $$$ on "meetings" and other things for "business purposes" than a Memphis, Nashville, etc. This is the bowl attendance game that keeps the motor running. Lots of ways to "entertain" in the city that never sleeps.

For common Mary and Joe from Pleasantville, Iowa...not so much, perhaps.

In the end, it is a kick in the head that a team that beats Ohio State by 30 points is headed to the FakeStripe Bowl.

For me...if I am spending money to attend a bowl...I want to be warm.

Common Mary and Joe from Pleasantville NEED some exposure to a place like NYC.

But they're chickenshit and afraid, so they'll pass on the opportunity, cuz Tampa is apparently the end-all for them.

Hell, even South Beach is too much for those proles to handle.

One of the best things about being me is that I fit in anywhere...NYC, Paris, Munich, Barcelona, Chicago, LA, Telluride, Iowa City, Oskaloosa, Vail, Denver...Oh yeah, Denver...when in Rome, baby.

Life is too short to be a pissant wimp.

First time I’d ever been there. I was surprised by how different NYC was compared to other large metro areas in the US I’d been to. LA, Chicago, Seattle, San Diego, Dallas, and others. Just nowhere near as crowded. LA is crowded with cars, but still it’s spread out. New York is really compact. Denver (metro area) feels like it covers more square area than NYC. Felt more like Tokyo. There are over 800 languages and dialects spoken in NYC. I honestly didn’t know there was 800 languages/dialects in the world. People on top of people.

The weird thing about Manhattan is that while it is as you say really compact...Central Park is unexpectedly huge.

Amsterdam is my favorite big city...but, then, my wife and I are Dutch.

Vegas is #2...not a gambler but so much to do...

Man, I’m glad you’re so adaptable to all your different surroundings. Perhaps a tad judgemental as well? Appreciate the condescending tone though.

BC has been offensively challenged for a number of years but they are pretty decent run team that usually has great defense. head coach is a renowned defensive guy

They remind you of Iowa so this should be a hard hitting bash em up game.

They have some big wins against Louisville and Fl St (who is not that good).

I know they are pretty good and have won four out of their last five games. I was just having fun with the pinstripes bowl name.

Look anyone that has been on this forum or the old hawk central forum knows I am a die hard hawk fan. I have been a huge Kirk supporter for many many years. I am just disappointed in the recent years all the inconsistency and lack of creativity especially on the offensive side of the ball. Kirk and I are about the same age and I am battling diabetes and who knows when my number may be called.

Is it so wrong that just once in my life time I get to see a national championship from the team I’ve always followed since I was knee high to a grasshopper? It’s frustrating to know that it’s so highly unlikely Kirk will ever get us there. Of course I hope I am wrong by the odds and history seem to dictate otherwise. If the old Iowa offensive coordinator over at Kansas State had been here coaching and recruiting for the 18 years as the head coach instead of KF I feel very confident in saying we would have at least seen one to three title games and maybe won one of them. That coach knows offenses and would have recruited even better players here at Iowa because of better facilities, boosters, and fan support. Can’t prove it but just a gut feeling. I know we would have had better receivers just because of what he did when he was here under fry. The QBs and running backs were pretty damn good too.

I've never been to NY but I've been to dozens of large metro areas. Lived in half a dozen. I blend in easily. A social chameleon. I never had any interest in NYC because of the sheer mass of people, like a previous poster said. Not interested in that. I have family out there and a nice place to stay, even. Doesn't interest me.

You fit in anywhere? I heard that a big seed corn company in Iowa is looking to place an expat in Africa to run the sales office - I'd like to see you out kicking some tires in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

The problem with NYC is that after Giuliani cleaned it up, rents got out of control and Manhattan (and increasingly Brooklyn) became overrun with the same homogenized corporate crap that is now in any decent sized town in the US. There's no character. It's basically a giant ped mall that is wildly overcrowded.

I lived there over 15 years ago. The documented population is up over 500k bince then, and I suspect that due to sampling errors it's actually up by closer to a million. It's horrible. I just got back from Tokyo yesterday and while that place is way more crowded than Manhattan, it's all polite Japanese that say "excuse me" and bow when they bump into you or you make way on the narrow sidewalk. It's the opposite of New York, but you have access to pretty much the same chain crap minus the Chipotles and Duane Reades.

Full disclosure - I hate musicals and have already been to the Met and USS Intrepid. Not much else I care to see in NYC and I only go when I get sent for work. In my humble opinion, e-commerce has rendered much of what made NYC special available to the rest of the world. I do like the bagels, though, but I'm not eating heavy carbs anymore as I get older.

Yes, it is wrong. Iowa can NEVER EVER EVER win three big games in a row. It has never happened and it will never happen. Iowa would have to beat one of PSU, MSU, OSU or Michigan in the B1G title game, then beat two more good teams, likely from the South or West Coast. It's just not going to happen, dude. Hell, all I want is a Rose Bowl win. I don't even want to get into the statistics of how badly Iowa has been dominated in that game in my lifetime.

"There's no character" to New York City! Are you kidding me? Sure it has gotten more corporate, but there is so much in NYC that you can't find anywhere else. Not the least of which is playing football in Yankee Stadium which I happen to think it pretty cool.
